Thanks for the suggestions! I do see content on channels 7–12 in Audacity. And all channels play in VOX, Audirvāna 3.5, and JRiver.
Less success with the XLD and MP3 Tag suggestions, probably something I’m doing. XLD complains: “Selected output format does not support input format.” and I don’t see header info in MP3 Tag. I’ve been using mediainfo (on linux) for that.
Using JRiver to convert WAV to WAV does produce a file that works in Audirvāna Studio. Thanks!
Whether that workflow scales and makes sense for me is less clear. I have three other players that don’t require it. Perhaps easiest to stick with Audirvāna 3.5 and hope that this is fixed on Audirvāna Studio or Roon adds support for more than 8 channels. My only issue with Audirvāna 3.5 is problems with large (> 2 GB) files.
I ran mediainfo on the two wav files (diff below) and two differences are Format settings and Channel layout.

I downloaded the 7.1.4 wav file here EBU QC - Details of Channel-based 7.1.4 and it plays in Studio. After I run it through ffmpeg, all channels do not play in Studio. ffmpeg -i channels_7_1_4_adm_bsldet.wav -c copy channels_7_1_4_adm_bsldet-ff.wav
Again the difference seems to be Format settings and Channel layout.
I’m pausing my studio subscription for now. I expect this issue is technically fixable but understandably low priority.
Happily 3.5 is still working for me with the many-channel files. My only issue with Audirvāna 3.5 having problems with large (> 2 GB) files seems to be fixed by “copying” them via ffmpeg
for ii in ../ttk0119_352k24b10ch/*.wav ; do ffmpeg -i "$ii" -c copy "$ii" ; done
