I have loaded the new Linux version into Ubuntu on Raspberry PI 4 with 4 Gb and also I’ve loaded the Raspberry PI OS on a PI 4 with 4Gb
I’ve loaded the Linux Origin for my PI into both versions. The Remote app connects just fine, it sees my Chord Dac, but, not the external usb drive.
Linux reads the external drive fine, but not the Remote app.
My music drive is formatted as xFat and all music is located in one directory. I have placed a few symphonies on a drive formatted as NTFS. In both cases the drive is mounted ok, but it won’t read beyond media/myusername.

See if this helps. Be sure to run sudo mount -a as mentioned so you can make sure everything is right before rebooting.
I don’t know if Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi has a graphical interface when you connect it to a monitor. If so there‘s a great video of automounting an external disc. See
Or else Jud‘s suggestion should work fine.
