Maintenance: Defragmentation

I was wondering if this function should be done only when there is a problem, or if it’s beneficial to do it sub-annualy?

I’m not presently having any issues, but “back in the day” I used to run Defragmentation on my Mac drives using Norton. This is no longer necessary with APFS formatting (I’ve read).

What about “Rebuilding the Indexes”?
