Hi Doudou thanks for the Settings
Iāll try today
I use spdif mode on the ifi streamer going to
My dac, \m/ the excited
Appreciate it you helping newbie like me! ⦠I can shred on my 6 and 7s! But clueless about this
Hi @Sunil_Dholwani ,
What are actually the specs of your DAC?
According to @Jacob , itās restricted to 192 KHz for PCM, and to DSD 64 for DSD.
If itās indeed the case, you wonāt be able to really upsample the 24-192 Qobuz files.
Hereās why:
*I can adjust to 384 on audirvana
I put it to 192 because benchmark Dac 3 max in is 192 stock ā¦
Iāll change my settings now
- 2 Coaxial Digital Inputs ā 24-bit/192 kHz PCM, DSD (DoP 1.1)
- 2 Optical Digital Inputs ā 24-bit/96 kHz PCM
- Multi-Mode Asynchronous USB Audio 2.0 ā 24 bit/192 kHz, DSD (DoP 1.1)
So I canāt use the settings you have anymore ?
How about for Bridge devices to Dac.? Should I Just put no limit or leave it to 192 as well ?
If you managed to change the settings:
You may upsample PCM and send 384 KHz to your iFi Zen Streamer, but it will downsample the stream back to 24-192, because this is the restriction of your DAC. So upsampling makes no sense.
You may also upsample to DSD and send DSD 256 to your iFi Zen Streamer, but it will downsample the stream to DSD 64, because this is the restriction of your DAC. In this case, the upsampling wonāt make sense, because itās a downgrade of the 24-192 source.
You can still upsample with AS and your system, but with other sources. For instance, CD quality, 16-44.1 tracks.
Itās fine. With this setting, you can upsample your 16-44.1 tracks to DSD 64.
With your DAC, you have also the possibility to upsample your 16-44.1 tracks to 24-192.
Compare both upsamplings to see which one sounds better to your ears.
Upsampling can make it better. It is not a fact that resampling will give you better quality. Itās a matter of trying.
Have some tracks you know well converted to DSD. It will probably sound slightly different. Then the question is whether it is better. Listen with this setting for a few hours or days, then turn off the upsampling. Does it sound different or better? Sometimes what seems better at first is a cause of listening fatigue after a few hours of listening.
De Benchmark is a great DAC. It is possible it sounds better with its own upsampling.
Yes Iāve been told
The benchmark Dac 3 b upsampling is good ⦠just wanted to see how can maximize audirvana to my gear ⦠so I guess only my 16 bit files
But wait how about 24/192? Or 24/96
Will they. Be downgraded ? Is Dsd64 a step
Down ? Thanks.
You can lose a lot of time in it. But itās a fun hobby.
You can choose from the sox and the R8brain resamplers. DSD and PCM. PCM maximum or Powerof2. Bandwith, stop band att. phase. It all makes a different.
They will be downgraded if you upsample them to DSD 64.
You can upsample all your 16-44.1, 16-48, 24-44.1 and 24-48 to DSD 64 without downgrade.
You can upsample your 16-44.1, 16-48, 24-44.1, 24-48 and 24-96 to 24-192 without downgrade.
With DSD, the DAC uses a different conversion chip. Or some other part of the chip. Just depending on what the manufacturer has placed the most emphasis on in development.
Fortunately, choosing between the modes is free. Just try.
If you donāt hear a huge difference, ask yourself if it is worth the time and risks.
In some setups upsampling gives stability problems. And the first advice from Damien is to try switch off upsampling.
With my previous DAC I spent many hours looking for an upsampling setting that was the ābestā. After replacing the power supply of the DAC, I had the idea that it had to change again.
With my current Hegel I have not yet found upsampling that makes me happy. So itās off now.
Some more detail:
With my iFi micro iDSD Black Label, I did not hear any benefit in upsampling with AS.
The DSD 256 upsampling of AS sounded good, but there was no tengible improvement when compared to the non-upsampled mode. Choosing between them can also be a question of taste. (There are people on the forum with excellent DACs who upsample to DSD 256 with AS, and they like it.)
And itās the same for me with all my players. I donāt upsample with any of them, neither on my Mac nor my PC, except with HQPlayer that produces a really great improvement to the sound when PCMs are upsampled.
In theory, DSD 64 is a step back from PCM 192. Whether it is also true in practiceā¦ā¦.?
Maybe Iām old fashioned, but to me the whole samplerate race seems to be mostly a commercial move. Sell āāthe same tracks for more money. New DACs sell because they now also accept 384khz at the digital input.
What the marketing department of companies think of it is clear. I highly doubt that the techs behind the scenes think the same.
I also passed a lot of time checking all this. And I even bought in many occasions exactly the same album, same edition, in different resolutions in order to compare the sound quality.
Though CD quality can sound excellent with a good mastering, I still hear an improvement with the Hi Res version of the same album, same edition.
Itās the same with DSD for me. I hear an improvement when I compare the DSD 64 version of an album to its DSD 128 and a DSD 256 versions.
EDIT
But the most important is the sound production of the album. If the sound production is poor, it will never sound great even with the highest resolutions.
My heart is in the last edit.
Major steps can be made in production and mastering. With the technology available.
Only this is not what the āmarket demandsā. And the market demand is determined by hi-fi media and forums. that are powered by hardware manufacturers and record labels.
Cough MQA cough. Excuses. there was something in my throat.
Thatās the point.
I often buy new remastered editions of albums that I love, and I own already.
Some labels are doing a great job, but itās always important to inquire about the sound quality before purchasing them.
