No sound from output Klipsch Headphone Amp

Hello,

Mac OS 10.14.6 and Audirvana 3.5.44.

I connected Klipsch Headphone Amp to my iMac and I can see this Klipsch device in Audirvana. I choose Klipsch as output DAC device but no sound from it during playback. I tried this headphone amp with iTunes and VOX and no problems.

Have you tried to deactivate the plugin you selected in Audirvana?

If you mean FabFilter, yes I did it but still no sound.

May be this help…

On a front panel of amp there is Sample Rate/DSD Indicator. Before playback Indicator shows 44.1k rate and flashes. After playback start it turns off and turns on if I stop playback. Normally this indicator shows Sample Rate/DSD depending from music file data.

If you don’t upsample using Audirvana, does the indicator not flash?

I deactivated Unsampling and everything worked. Amp Sample Rate/DSD Indicator corresponds to music file data, i.e. if file is 24/192 it shows 192, if file is DSD 128 it shows 5.6M etc.

This thus means your DAC need to do the upsampling internally and you won’t be able to use upsampling of Audirvana.

Yesterday evening I tried to change some settings. And what I found out:

  1. All DSD files are playing without problems.

  2. All files are playing without problems with Upsampling deactivated and with Upsampling activated but only when I choose such modes as ‘Custom’ (from and to frequencies are equal) and ‘To DSD’.

  3. Then I set 192 kHz as Maximum sample rate and after that it works OK.

What confused me before I asked you? As you can see from picture attached maximum of supported PCM rates is 768 but actually it is limited it to 192 by Klipsch . I have another system with Lindemann and it has 384 as limit and it works with setting ‘No limit’ in ‘Maximum sample rate’.

Do you mean that when you try to play a DSD track without upsampling your device do not report it as DSD?

It seems 192khz is the max samplerate. But the headphone ‘reports’ 768 to the software.

So when you limit to 192 it works fine.

And klipsh should update there firmware.

To test I set ‘No limit’ in ‘Maximum speed rate’ and try to play DSD 128 track. No problems, it’s OK. Klipsch front panel recognizes this track as 5.6M (blue LED) according to User Manual (see picture attached). Problems were only with PCM where I have to limit ‘Maximum speed rate’ to 192.

Yes, I agree with you. Technical possibilities of device are more more wider than limit of 192.
