I have discovered today that if I enable the internal volume control I donāt get the noise between tracks. I donāt see the connection but it works for me. Doesnāt seem to make any difference what volume setting I choose. I am concerned that I may be reducing the audio quality though. Is that likely?
If you leave the volume setting on full (0,0 dB), the sound quality will not be reduced.
Thanks to GB46 for sharing this workaround! It resolved for me the issue of noise between tracks in kernel streaming mode, and also the issue I reported in āCreaking noise when pressing pause playing DSDā.
Thanks so much GB46! The sharp noise between tracks disappeared during listening with Kernel Streaming mode.
I thought I was hearing things, but the quiet of night and concentration has revealed a short amount of hiss at the start of tracks. (Win10)
The hiss (typically sounds like āI lost the DACā) lasts for 1/2 second, itās perceptible. Does not occur with tracks that run into one another, only those separated by silence. Once playing, the track is fine, no other dropouts until the next track is played. Happens on DSF or FLAC, ripped SACD or CD, or ādownloaded contentā.
I use ASIO since itās supplied with the DAC, volume control is always at 0db.
Playing the same tracks with Jriver on the same DAC does not incur the hiss.
Just to rule things out: does the hissing also occur when you use WASAPI for output?
Hmm, not sure if the DAC can be driven with WASAPI, havenāt used WASAPI for years on DAC if ASIO was available. Will try to prove a point, but thats not a long term fix.
If your dac is usb audio 2 compatible (most modern dacs are) it can use wasapi. Wasapi is Microsoftās answer to ASIO and can play bit perfect audio just like ASIO.
Sorry, I was greeted with total silence using WASAPI, doesnāt work, ASIO is fine.
If the track is FF to the next, no hiss.
