Origin on Mac Mini M1 to Marantz M1?

I was hoping to find out if this topic has been covered or if someone please could let me know if this is worth investigating.

I have a Marantz M1 set up as a streamer on my network. I have an option to use a Mac Mini M1 with 16 gigs RAM and Orgin to play back various lossless files CD quality up to 96/24 (Flac). Anyone familiar with the Marantz M1 stereo streamer? The manual does reference using HDMI or optical for TVs but I would imagine that maybe the Mac would work? Thoughts anyone?

FYI Both would be on the same network via ethernet cable, along with a NAS. Presently “HEOS” can get the Marantz to see the NAS files but rather use Origin for file playback.

Welcome…

It appears the Marantz box does not support UPnP and they also tell you not to connect the Ethernet connection directly to your computer…

Do not connect a NETWORK connector directly to the LAN port/Ethernet connector on your computer.

The HEOS app is your control interface for accessing Internet Streaming services…

This seems to be the only way to play files via the HEOS interface.

Playing music from a USB flash drive

Insert a FAT32 or NTFS formatted USB flash drive into the USB port on the rear panel of this unit.

Tap the “Home” tab.

Select “USB” from the “Sources” section.

Select the name of this unit.

Browse the music on your USB flash drive and select something to play.

NOTE

It may take several minutes for the name of this unit to appear in the “USB” list if you have a large number of files on your USB flash drive.

It is not possible to connect and use a computer via the USB port of this unit using a USB cable.

As you can see above from the User Manual, it is not possible to use USB from your Mac…

I suggest that you move your Mac close to your playback electronics and get another good DAC that supports all relevant PCM sample-rates and DSD sample-rates and connect it to your playback system… If the Marantz box is your only amp, you have two options… The first option is to send signals via the optical S/PDIF input via another DAC and this input is throttled to 192kHz… The second option is to use another DAC and connect the analog output of the DAC to the analog inputs of the Marantz box.

First, thank you for the response. Very much appreciated. I was able to run another type of test that isn’t quite what I wanted - I have another computer with Audirvana Origin. I was able to via network (router) Go Wifi to the router and then the router is connected via ethernet to the Marantz M1. Audirvana Origin recognized the Marantz M1 via network and successfully played files off my NAS. My goal was to use HDMI ARC from the Mac to the Marantz. As the Marantz does accept signals from a TV HDMI. IF the latter will not work, I guess just a network setup will be the next best thing though I prefer a direct connect (not by Ethernet but HDMI).

Audirvana can bypass the audio section of the MAC and that why it is a good actor in such a scenario. Normally that computer connects via USB to powered speakers and works quite well.

Please paste your debug information here so we can see your computer platform resources and OS version and see the capabilities of the Marantz box in the scenario you are describing where you can play files from your NAS…
You can find the debug report information here:
