Play DSD on M1 Max

Hi,

I’m using the Fiio New KA3 as DAC and it supports up to DSD 265. I have some files Native DSD and I can’t get to play them as DSD. I have the DSD over PCM activated and even if I setup the upsampling options to DSD, the KA3 play all files as DSD excepted the Native DSD Files. Audirvana always play the DSD Files as 32/352 Khz

First audirvana don’t upsample dsd files, so turn upsampling off

Did you set dsd over pcm 1.1, not 1.0 ?

How are you connecting your DAC to the Mac?
…macOS uses DoP 1.1 to transmit native/raw DSD to your DAC…
The DoP 1.1 PCM carrier sample-rates are: 176.4kHz (DSD64), 352.8kHz (DSD128), 705.6kHz (DSD256)

You can force all PCMxxx to be up-sampled (modulated) to DSDxxx using r8Brain (Forced up-sampling type = to DSD) then set to your desired DSD sample-rate, DSD64, DSD128, DSD256…)

Audirvana will ignore any up-sampling setting when playing native DSDxxx files…

I turned it off I just wanted to know if the DAC recognize the DSD and it does.
Yes, it’s set over ppm 1.1

First not related, but lower memory buffer to 25000 out of 32gb of memory.

Hog mode is off, better or should be on ?

Auto detect mqa… not related. but put it at not if not mqa dac…

Can’t see why you can’t play dsd as dsd… settings on your dac not correct?

For the buffer memory Audirvana always recommand like 3gb for the system, so out of 32gb…

Hmmm, i think for mac is max 256.
Will not do 512…

I agree, but will play good also at 25000, so if he or she wants to upsample after, the 25000 will be better for…

I have 20gb on a macmini 2018, and set it to 17000, not even upsampling, loads faster, but 6000 will works too…

After cd as buffered after seconds, macmini is sleeping almost, never working :grinning:

Where can I activate the hog mode?

Everything is correct on dac I don’t know what’s going on, the dac shows green light when playing did and only turns green with upsampling

You can see my dac stop at dsd128
but my macmini can go to dsd256

@FabsEscalona … This is why you see DSD capability to DSD128 (5.6Mhz) and not beyond…
Your DAC only supports PCM sample-rates to 384kHz… Your DAC needs to support 705.6kHz (2 x 352.8kHz) to be able to transmit DSD256 (11.2MHz) via DoP 1.1…
