Playback issue - macOS 10.14.6 // Audirvana 3.5.12 (3542)

Audirvana has been working fine until I updated to macOS 10.14.6 Public Beta 3 (and subsequently with Beta 4) - since then when I try to replay tracks using Audirvana I get a 1 second or so burst of white noise when playback starts, but otherwise no sound at all. Playback animations continue - which suggest that some part of the app still thinks music is being played (e.g. the progress marker continues to move to the left etc.).

Changing the source and / or output device makes no difference to this.

Anyone got thoughts on what I can do about this?

PS - yes I know 10.14.6 is a beta preview - but Beta 4 is normally close to release, so maybe helpful to find out if this issue is macOS or Audirvana related.

I’m on the non public version, General release and have same or similar issue with Cary audio dh500. Loud white noise. Acts like it’s playing. Only get beginning of track then all goes to white noise. Turned off all upsampling. Same issue. Super frustrating.

I have same problem. my message to Audirvana support goes unanswered at all. if any interest, I still keep the older v.3.2.xx and it works flawlessly.

can you try at your end the older version, please?

Unfortunately not - I get identical behaviour if I try using Audirvana Plus 3.2.14 (3146) into my MM-1 speakers (a burst of static then nothing - but Audirvana Plus appears to think it is still playing track and animates the progress meter).

iTunes plays the track no problem so pretty sure it is not hardware. My guess is that something has changed in a macOS library that Audirvana has not yet been updated to work with.

Hopefully it won’t be too long until such an update appears.

bump! Still happening with latest version (3.5.15 - 3545) despite the changelog reporting that latest version is “Catalina Ready”… which I think this bug suggests is not (quite) true; unless “Catalina Ready” is short for “Catalina Ready but not working in Mojave” :slight_smile:

There is quite the possibility this is due to some issue with either your DAC interface, or USB cable.
Can you first make a try with Integer Mode set to OFF? (option in the first section of audio settings)
If this helps, then this confirms there is a hardware issue messing with the precise streaming timings of Integer Mode.

Thanks for the suggestion: turning integer mode off fixes the issue on all audio outputs. Huzzah!

Speakers and cable are unchanged from what worked with previous versions of macOS, so whatever the issue is somehow with earlier versions of macOS it did not present itself as an issue.

I guess integer mode was a bit of a bonus - the MM-1’s are very old now and I’m amazed they work at all :slight_smile:
