I have a bunch of files in opus format with .opus extension. Foobar and VLC play them fine but Audirvana 2.5.19 don’t even add them to the library. MacOS Sequoia 15.2. Thank you
Convert them to .aiff or .wav or .flac
Opus is a codec to optimize speech and compress the files quite considerably. Not very suitable for music.
at 128kpbs opus is transparent for 2ch music. My files are 256kbps. I hear no difference b/t them and FLACs. (I’m not using opus for archival.)
Until (when/if) Audirvana has Opus support, what you could do if you want to go to the trouble:
-
Install ffmpeg on Mac: Installing FFmpeg on Mac {3 Methods Explained}
-
Batch convert the Opus files to FLAC (or if there aren’t a huge number and you want to do them a few at a time, convert the files individually): https://www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/1dr4h0b/converting_an_opus_file/?rdt=60201
There may be other tools with a handy graphical user interface that can do the job with less hassle on your part; I haven’t gone looking for them, but you may be able to find one or more you like.
Not as convenient certainly, but you would be able to play your files without having to wait.
