I’m not sure what you mean by gain structure.
I have been adjusting the ram to eight gig all the way back down to three gig. Nothing seems to matter.

When the Mac mini is operated without a display attached, the GPU isn’t activated… when you access your Mac or PC remotely, the CPU does all the work in rendering the user interface. As a result the CPU operations are taxed with managing the graphics display, and not the dedicated video sub-system topology… This condition taxes the available System RAM and increases latency potentials. Using a dummy HDMI video accelerator will allow the Mac mini video sub-system to be engaged, therefore offloading the graphics demand from the CPU…
Gain Structure: The signal ‘level’ management from input to output to the DAC
Some DACs have more headroom than others… When the level/dynamic-range exceeds the dynamic-range of the digital system, it will clip the signal which sounds like clicks and pops… Try lowering the output volume of Audirvāna by -3dB or -6dB… (In digital-audio, 1bit = 6dB) the volume control is 64bit precision (384dB dynamic-range) that outputs a transparent 32bit (192dB dynamic-range) signal to the DAC/DDC unless the bit-depth is limited to 24bit…
As @Amarok1969 suggests, try a different radio station feed so to verify this behavior is just associated to Ella Radio…
What does this entail? Are you describing a simple ethernet connection from the Mac mini to the AirLens, or are you using a router with other devices running on the network?
M series Mac Mini don’t need that dongle now…
they create a 1920x1080 screen to make the gpu active.
but if you play with screen sharing a lot to edit your songs from another computer and want more resolution to adapt you will need something else… dongle or apps

Did it ever occur to you that the low resolution is a result of the CPU handling all of the graphics processing?

It is in comparison to the video GPU sub-system… Why would they throttle the GPU/sub-system? (Rhetorical)… They wouldn’t… The CPU is tasked with handling the graphics processing in concert with all other processing and RAM demands when there is no display attached… this is why there are software display emulators that trick the system into thinking it has a display attached and these add more processing overhead…
