Probleme Audirvana - Esoteric n-05xd

pc win10 / Netgear nighthawk s8000 / Esoteric n-05xd

merci pour votre aide !

Looking at the manual the Esoteric is Roon Ready and also supports OpenHome but not UPnP AV for network playback. To get it to work with Audirvana you would need to connect via USB or use a separate network bridge that supports UPnP AV.

I may be mistaken but the manual does not state the system supports UPnP AV, only OpenHome which is a modified version of UPnP. Audirvana does not support OpenHome.

thanks for answering Djm,
It seems that it can be used with UPnP, as several owners do so without any problems.

The issue here is multifaceted, as I’m already wondering what the best way to connect the devices is in terms of speed and usage.

If I connect my Esoteric via USB, which will then be the player: the PC or the Esoteric?

I’m still actively researching how to connect both via Ethernet…

Welcome…

Roon uses their proprietary communication/transmission protocol RAAT which is dependent on a certified RAAT endpoint which is the n-05xd… UPnP is more ambiguous due to proprietary variations in the implementation of the protocol in the device operational firmware..

More information is need about your configuration(s) and playback system architecture… Please pass your debug information here so to get the best insights from the community… It is found here:

It appears from this screenshot below, that the n-05xd uses the Ethernet interface for NAS file access and Internet streaming and ROON RAAT network connection, and uses the USB interface for direct playback from the computer platform which can implement the Bulk PET transmission protocol…

I suggest using the shortest USB-3 protocol interconnect possible and using this device linked below, to make the transition from USB-3 protocol to the USB ‘B’ interface of the DAC on a very short USB ‘B’ interconnect… USB-3 cable protocol removes the signaling interrupts from the digital-audio signal conductors and puts them on separate conductors… This removes the interrupt noise, which will translate to better signal integrity in every case and will improve the performance of the Bulk PET transmission efficiency.

The Owners that are reporting that it works are probably using BubbleUPnP or a similar app. BubbleUPnP supports both UPnP AV and OpenHome. Audirvana only supports UPnP AV. So may be some confusion. Best of luck anyway……

Edit:

There appears to be some workarounds to get AS to communicate with an OpenHome device over a network connection. See extract from web search.

Audirvana does not natively support the OpenHome Protocol.

It is primarily designed to work with standard UPnP/DLNA and Google Cast (Chromecast).

While some users have reported occasional compatibility, the official stance from Audirvāna’s support is that OpenHome is a custom extension of UPnP/DLNA that is not currently on their development roadmap.

Key Compatibility Details

  • UPnP-AV Primary Support: Audirvāna identifies and connects to devices using the standard UPnP-AV/DLNA protocol.

  • OpenHome Conflicts: Devices that rely exclusively on OpenHome (such as some Linn or Auralic streamers) may not be discovered or may experience playback issues like skipping tracks or failing to seek.

  • The “Workaround” Bridge: You can use BubbleUPnP Server as a bridge to expose a UPnP-AV renderer as an OpenHome device, or vice-versa, which may stabilize the connection between Audirvāna and certain streamers.

  • Hybrid Devices: Some streamers (like those from Lumin) support both protocols simultaneously, which might allow them to work with Audirvāna via their UPnP implementation”

So from what I see if you install BubbleUPnP Server (software costs +/- 5 dollars) on your PC it may provide a means to expose your Esoteric as a UPNP-AV device to Audirvana and provide the neccessary translation “layer” to allow full functionality.

Audirvāna will deliver the digital-audio signal via USB protocol or Ethernet (UPnP protocol) to the DAC…

The iFi-Audio interface box that I pointed-to, will translate the USB-3 signal transmission protocol architecture received from the USB bus controller of the PC, into a USB-2 protocol output, that will be determined by the appropriate USB ‘A’ to USB-2 ‘B’ cable…

When you employ the USB bus of the computer, you will be able to take advantage of the “Bulk PET” transmission protocol that the n-05xd is designed to support.

Have you tried going into the settings for your DAC (gear icon next to the DAC Name in the Output Device section of the settings/audio page) and turned on the option for “Fix for devices with unwanted playback stops”? This may help.

For diagnosing cause of issues you can go to settings/my account and under the help section turn on “start log session” Then initiate playback until you get an unwanted playback interruption then “stop log” in the account settings help section and use the view log option to look for error messages.

Best of luck.

It appears from this screenshot below, that the n-05xd uses the Ethernet interface for NAS file access (FAT32) and Internet streaming network connection, and uses the USB interface for direct playback from the computer platform which can implement the Bulk PET transmission protocol and Roon RAAT …
