what is the purpose of inverting the polarity in the processing signal
In some recordings the polarity of the signal is inverted along the total audio path. Especially for weird signals, such as brass instruments (spikey sawtooth signals) or some voices (asymmetrical type of signal going up vs down) some people are sensitive to the speaker membrane moving in the opposite as intended directions for these signals.
I have a couple of recordings that sound pretty uninteresting and dull when played, toggling inversion makes them come alive in an interesting way.
YMMV… but it’s worth experimenting with.
