Qobuz and other hi-res files have so much static it drowns out the original

My Qobuz purchases up to 192z res are drowned out bt static/.

Is this a problem when listening via Audirvana, or in general?
What do the recordings sound like if streaming from Qobuz via Audirvana, as opposed to listening to downloaded files.

I tested with 4 tracks from Steely Dav Pretzel Logic downloaded in 24/192 res. I purchased them from Qobuz. All tracks have static in every track at various levels. I own the cd of same album and will import them into AIFF format into Apple Music.

Same static playing files in Apple Music

Have you shut-down Audirvāna, and shut-down your computer and re-booted the computer?

Seems more like a hardware error or maybe network problems. I don’t think the files are the issue.

I had same problem with last two updates the static was horrible with TIDAL and Qobuz but did not occur with my stand alone apps and with ROON. I found the static went away on AS but SQ suffered greatly someone suggested turn INTEGER MODE OFF and put EXCLUSIVE MODE back on the static disappeared and SQ returned to pristine. Integer mode has no effect on human ear so it being off has no effect on SQ

Great news. I was going crazy. Thank you for update

Turn off Integer mode leave exclusive mode on

Yes all of those several times.

now I’m reading Integer Mode and Exclusive Mode. My Advance Paris X-i75. ā€œBest results are achieved when feeding an Integer Mode, asynchronous USB DAC like the AMR DP-777 that can take advantage of all these optimization features.ā€

The Advance Paris X-i75 uses a Wolfson WM8740 DAC chip for its USB input and an AKM AK4113 chip for its S/PDIF digital inputs. The Wolfson chip handles the asynchronous connection from the USB Type-B port, while the AKM chip is a low-jitter receiver for optical and coaxial digital inputs. Do I need to get an external Dac and use it instead of the Wolfsen?

I can get Denafrips Enyo 15th, Mytek Liberty Dac II, Schiit, Cambridge Audio Dacmagic 200. Should I buy an external Dac? My amp has Pre-out and Main in. My digital music jncludes Qobuz streamed and some downloaded plus ripped cds. Res up to 192kz. Should I buy a Denafrips. Schiit, CA Dacmagic 200. I am somewhat limited as to cost. Taho MasOS 26.1 and latest Studio.

I really need advice. Since buying the Advance Paris X–75 the static has been all the time sometimes drowning out the music. I only use Studio, and Qubuz no Apple Music,. Have used Dacmagic 200 and Schiit Bifrost 2/64. Currently no external Dac.

It is possible you were/are overloading the DAC in the receiver… Gain management is important… Try lowering your Audirvana output volume -6dB to start…

@Antoine @Agoldnear @randyps65

Thank you for your support. I don’t really understand the technology you describe @Antoine but thanks. All I would like to know is for as long as I have had first Audirvāna then AS I have had exclusive mode and integer mode ON firstly with 2012 Mac mini then M1 2020 Mac mini both with 16GB RAM the 2012 through a Schiit GUNGNIR DAC then 2020 t through Schiit Yggdrasil GS . I also use Meridian Explorer 2 through Schiit Ragnarok. I never had the static/ distortion problem until last 2 AS updates. Fiddling around by turning off exclusive mode on AS for the Yggy the static went away but SQ suffered by turning exclusive mode ON and integer mode OFF the static went away and SQ became pristine again. Obviously this was not a factor at all with ME2 as it didn’t go through the Yggdrasil only the Rggy Amp. I just know by turning off integer mode static went away YET there never was static using my standalone TIDAL and Qobuz apps and never any static with ROON. So in my simple 78 year old mind none of this makes sense. All I have tried to do is offer what seems to be simple solution to many AS owners who seem to complain of same issue. Did what I did solve others static issues? And do you all agree that integer mode really is not perceptible to human ear so has no effect to one’s SQ? Also why did this all start 2 updates ago? bobbmd

So all was normal two updates ago?

It seems you don’t download each updates and keep them, just in case!!

Which one you want me to upload in my dropbox??

By the way, i don’t even use Studio… Origin user. You want Origin?

If you want by accident 2.11.3, it is already in my dropbox…

So… Managing gain structure is very important, especially from DAC platform to DAC platform… Some DACs have more headroom than others…
Also, it is key to understand that Integer Mode is working at the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and this will be device dependent as it is a form of a control ā€œwhite-paperā€ for the DAC… It is possible that the DAC in the Advance receiver (or another DAC platform), does not respond to Integer level control as implemented in Audirvāna (See page 3 of Damien’s article linked above…)

Regarding ā€˜Hardware Abstraction Layer’:

A good metaphor is the abstraction of transportation. Both bicycling and driving a car are transportation. They both have commonalities (e.g., you must steer) and physical differences (e.g., power source). One can always specify the abstraction ā€œdrive toā€ and let the implementor decide whether bicycling or driving a car is best. The ā€œwheeled terrestrial transportā€ function is abstracted and the details of ā€œhow to driveā€ are encapsulated.

The removal of software induced noise (jitter) can be quite audible to the active listener on any given amalgamation of playback components, auditioned in any given acoustic environment or headphone playback system…
