Smart Playlist (File Location Criteria) not working

Started using Audirvana recently ,

1 - Set up new “smart playlist” based on “File Location” _ all current files playing with Audirvana are located in this file path / folder .
Playlist saved and appears _ appears empty . Despite copy and paste of correct file path .

All files existing in database have been uploaded with "Monitored Folder " option in Preferences _ ie - same folder path , however these folders are not syncing despite option being activated to Sync on start-up .

2- I have deleted all previous Library as loaded from “Music” library Sync , as this gives me a combination of empty playlists - “Smart playlists” ( Artist name) already in Music -
or alternatively a repetition of smart playlists from “music sync” which are both empty and impossible to edit / delete .

Perhaps I am missing something here- but Not great really so far . I want to be able to sync and have record of files from their stored location , rather than manual upload .

any hints on how I might improve on this ??

Hello @davidwd, Can you send me a copy of the “Debug Info”? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>General>Debug Info

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info Audirvana button automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message.

Damien,
assuming Davidwd is running Audirvana on Catalina, I had the same problem. I fixed it giving Audirvana full disk access. I hope it will not harm my Mac as that permission is pretty broad

There are major flaws with playlist management in my opinion. As an example of something I really really need very badly, is the simple ability to drag and drop files from the Finder to a playlist.
When are you going to implement it?
Or, to select multiple files on the play queue and send them to a playlist. Now this is only possible from the Library view, which is difficult to manage if you have many files
Etc. Etc.

Actually not. I just created a new smart playlist using File location is equal to, there are no tracks no matter whatever I try. I’ve no idea why the first smart playlist worked. Something has to be broken
Any urgent help will be much appreciated

Try this…

Select your music folder in criteria, then rename the playlist, then in the tracks view, add the field Audio File Location, stretch that column large if your paths are long, voilà!

have no idea obviously what this means - but hopefully will clarify something .

oh - and files are located on a second disk partition

I have attempted giving Audirvana "Full Disk Permissions " , though this also does not seem to help .

Hello @davidwd, does all of your file you are trying to use in your smart playlist are here?

Have you fixed the issue? Actually, RunHomeSlow has answered it but I assume it was not understood.

For a weird reason, “File loacation” means not a full path but starts from parent folder name on the disk. So, instead of “Volumes/Disk_name/Folder/subfolder” you would need to enter “Folder/subfolder” as a “file location”. Better use “contains” or “begins with” to account for subfolders.
This can be seen in “audio file location” tab as RunHomeSlow explained.

Finally, programming of Audirvana is critically unacceptable in my opinion. As a paid application, and considering the decent audio part implementation, UI is an insult to the user, and as such it should be overwritten using the current programming tools.

Hi Sorry ,

Late reply here _ I have given up on using the application _ simply rubbish in terms of playlist coordination . Simply doesn’t do what it says .
File Location option is void _
Sync with Apple Music is disaster and results in numerous duplications or empty playlists . Just not what I need having paid a license fee .

Thanks

DD

Absolutely agree the user interface is Ugly to be fair, far below expectations, support is very poor and they insist the application is ok, I’ll switch to a more professional attitude company.

I switched from JRiver to Audirvana just because the interface was much better. Support is also quite good, there is a lively community that is very engaged and passionate about the product.

@puccet I’m wondering to which application you want to switch?

I’m evaluating Roon even it’s not supporting DSD iso format, but As long user of Audirvana+ I’m just too tired of the poor library management interface and features, there are too many things not working and the last user interface implementation is really horrible, not from the graphic point of view, but from a user experience one.

  1. Settings open a view replacing your current album one, no close button but just the back button, very poor experience
  2. Features in the settings are listed without a structured view, you have to scroll down to find the setting you’re looking for, pity…
  3. The album navigation is hugly to be fair, sort fields works only in some view not all (WHY???) but the user interface let you click on them and put the sort arrow making you think it should work…
  4. The sort criteria in the settings does not works it just keep ordering by album title->disc number->track number, Yet another bug
  5. The database easily get corrupted I’ve already rebuild it not less than 10 times, someone knows why?No.
  6. Last but not least there’s no contact info to get support you have to write in this forum and hope for the Holy Spirit to receive some useful info, this is the worst form of support a user can receive for a paid app.

I’m also a Roon user, but it’s quite a different animal when compared to Audirvana, even without counting the cost.

I never had an issue with the library corruption, and it’s been a while since I started using version 3.5. Some of the library issues are related to the specific setup. If you had to rebuild it so many times, something is up with your setup.

You can always write to support@audrivana.com for direct support. In my experience the community support usually works much better than direct support. Yes, the community might not be able to fix bugs, but usually you get good advice on possible workarounds.

Well I’m happy for you, about my setup I had a previously network storage migrated on a local 4TB disk, after this last move it seems much more reliable but anyway there’s no reasonable reason why the network storage should corrupt the database so often (the database is local, just the media files were on the NAS).
