Some albums and (most) album art not showing

Hi guys - I’ve just installed Audirvana on a Macbook M1 and 2011 Macbook Pro. On the M1, the albums all show ok as does the album art. On the Pro most of the album art doesn’t show. How can I get all album art to show? Also, how do I organise my library so that the albums are shown in alphabetical order by artist name as I do in iTunes?

Thanks,
Frank.

Hello @FrankErmes,

Can you send me a copy of the “Debug Info” of your MacBook Pro? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>General>Debug Info

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

For your sorting settings, you can change them in Audirvana settings in the sorting section

Thanks Damien - here’s the Debug info :

As for the sorting…as I was typing this reply out, I noticed that Audirvana is showing “compilation” albums first - that is, albums containing songs by various artists. Scrolling down further, I can see albums listed in alphabetical order by artist…doh!
My apologies - I guess I’m so used to looking at an iTunes display I didn’t see what was staring me right in the face with a different display.

Frank.

Same problem on my 2 old macs! (iMac 2010, macbook pro 2011, OSx El Capitan both). Macbook pro crashes on artists tab scrolling down with black artist arts. Very frustrating and weird thing…

Hi Damien - I’ve managed to fix the issue. I synchronised Audirvana with my iTunes library via “Music Library Synchronisation” and now the artwork is all there. I’m pretty certain I didn’t do that with my M1 Macbook - as far as I can recall I simply added the name of my external HDD via “Monitored Folders”.
But now I’ve noticed another issue : I have some albums by Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears and Hound Dog Taylor & The Houserockers. If I search for, say, “Black Joe Lewis”, Audirvana shows all of his albums but if I search for “Black Joe Lewis &…”, Audirvana shows zero artists and albums. Same for “Hound Dog Taylor &…” Seems Audirvana does not like the ampersand symbol. The “&” is part of both artists’ titles in my library. And same for AC/DC - as soon as I type in the “/” character, Audirvana shows no artists or albums. This happens on both the M1 and Macbook Pro. Not a big issue but could be a bug in Audirvana? It doesn’t seem to like special characters in the Search bar.
Thanks again.

Frank.

The problem is that iTunes stores the covers in its proprietary database, instead of recording them in the audio file metadata as it should be according to current standards.
The first solution is to perform a synchronization according to method #2: Synchronization of the iTunes library (Audirvana Plus Preferences Library page).
If this is not enough, then the covers must be added directly.
If it is only one or a few albums that are missing their cover, you can retrieve them from the web, and drop the image file directly onto the cover of the album in Audirvana Plus.
If it is a large number of albums, then you can use a tool to recover missing metadata, such as MusicBrainz Picard.

For the searching criteria we will need to take a look at it as we could reproduce the issue on our side.

Can you search for Black Joe Lewis? It should find Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, select it and open the metadata panel, what do you see for the sort as criteria?

Yep searching for “Black Joe Lewis” shows all results. Searching for “Black Joe Lewis & …” shows no results. Here’s a screenshot of the sort criteria :

Have you tried without adding spaces in your search?

Just tried it - “Black Joe Lewis&…” works (no spaces before or after “&”). A space before the “&” works ok but not after as does a space after the “&” but not before! Also, searching for “AC/DC” shows no results but searching for “AC” does.
Thanks.

I have the same problem with album covers with MacBook Air, early 2014. Have found a way to solve this issue manually but is taking a lot of time. I’m choosing the album and using the “Change” button (Album details, bottom) on the right I’m entering the album’s folder on my Mac and attaching the picture from it. If you miss the picture somehow you can download it from internet and save it in the album’s folder.
Regarding the alphabetical order you can set the priority from the settings of Audirvana. You can choose to be by song’s title or performer’s name. You can edit the Album title or Album artist in Album details, on the right.

You can also try MusicBrainz Picard. I saw that mentioned somewhere. It’s a free download so the price is right! I’ve got it but haven’t had a chance to play with it yet.

I am running into the same issue using Windows10 version of Audirvana. Some album artwork is not showing up and is even showing as if it’s loading indefinitely. Restarting software, computer, etc. does nothing. I try to again re-load and re-load the artwork again and again to no avail. These are primarily ALAC files. I do not currently use iTunes on this computer at all so syncing libraries is not an option. These ALAC files are sourced from when I ripped the CD’s into lossless format using my mac.
