Sound quality Studio vs 3.5?

Roon offers even a more detailed presentation than AS of the sound path during the operations. And Roon proceeds similarly. It increases the bit depth of the sound to 64 bit before applying any operation to it, like adjusting its level for instance, and then it sets its bit depth to the level that is supported by DAC.
JRiver also does the same, but its presentation is less detailed than the one of AS.

it is always better to do DSP at the highest possible bit depth. This gives headroom to perform calculations.

After the operations have been performed, the signal can return to the bit depth of the DAC.

The best thing should be to do this with a nice dither. I think Damien chooses not to dither.

I also think that 3.5 sounds better, warmer and less edgy treble.

No strong interest in internet radio.

And agree, launch without remote is at best, bad planning.

That’s weird, because my experience is the exact opposite. I perceive 3.5 as being brighter, and AS as warmer and more relaxed.

I believe this may be highly equipment dependent.

Yes 3.5 is forward while AS has more dynamics and is more natural.

Truth be told, I don’t have fancy equipment like some other people here.
A Terratec Aureon 7.1 USB soundcard hooked up to a Philips FR 966 receiver. Which is connected to a set of Rank Arena speakers and a JVC subwoofer. So very basic stuff I guess

So personally I don’t hear a difference between 3.5 and AS here. They both sound excellent in my book.

They do sound way better compared to other players though, that’s for sure.

My equipment is even less fancy, my speakers don’t even have a manufacturer name!

Nice, are we going to have a ā€˜show your equipment’ thread? It’s nice to see how people use the AS (2.5/3.5).

Edit: In case it’s not clear. It’s really nice to see the conditions in which AS is used. My idea was that it was more for the audio nerds (like me). But as you can see from these latest comments, it really is not that like that. Music lovers without audiophile genes also use it.

Yeah, you get it.
I missed out on the audioplie genes. Got plenty of the music lover gene.
Though I’m sticking with A3.5, as I have no need for streaming intigration, and have an adequate radio app, though it is rarely used.

Thank you RunHomeSlow for this suggestion. However I wd like to see the ā€œpath of fileā€ (chemin de fichier) when you have many hard discs or USB keys in your library
Did you find a way to get this ?

OK I found the tab to show the path of file (it is called: emplacement/File location)

Update to my listening of Audirvana Studio. I moved my equipment around and therefore unplugged and plugged everything back in again. While I have not done extensive listening tests, my impression is that Audirvana Studio and Audirvana 3.5 sound about the same in my system/room.

In which mode did you compare between them?

It would be extremely difficult to compare. Even with the same server and the same DAC you would have two different protocols and two different interfaces.

@Jim_F I agree with you. The SQ is great and i will subscribe. I also love Diana Krall. Her voice, the instruments, drums, piano, pure emotions. But I admit there are bugs, not crucial for me, hoping that Damien will fix. But I have one question: why do you think it’s a good idea to reply to anybody who said that AS it’s not ok? It’s her/his opinion. Even if i will say that this software is bullsh*t is my opinion. It’s FREEDOM!

Yeah!

Freedom is also the fact that he replies to everyone he wants

Does that extend to the freedom to flag willy nilly?

Freedom is everything that is not prohibited by the laws and regulations of the place where you are. If you do not accept this, then you live in another place, with whose rules and laws you agree.

Very philosophical, vague and also very off topic. What’s next… The meaning of life?
