Stopping after track finishes (-1s) or mid track

This happens on nearly every album and variable qualities, from 44 to 192 16 bit 24 bit etc. IM using a Wiim with ethernet source Spdif out. Tracks are served from a mac mini running Catalina.

It to the point were it’s an unusable product. Sometimes I get a full play through of an album sometimes I don’t. I did have a problem with tracks stopping with -1 sec to go which i think I fixed with the gapless playback option.
Unfortunately the fix button for pausing of songs doesn’t seem to help. Ive lowered buffer to 3k

Any other advice? Will add a debug when this album either finishes or stops. I was just listening to an album, kept stopping. Put it on again with no changes . played through fine. Infuriating.

Are you running the Mac Mini headless?
Are connecting the Mac Mini wirelessly to the router?

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

Do you happen to stream ALAC tracks ?
For some users experiencing the same issue, enabling upsampling fixes the issue.

Seems to be a common problem with Wiim devices and their UPnP implementation as per the attached link to the Wiim support forum. Would suggest the OP puts in a support request to Wiim to try and get them to address the issue with some urgency (posts are from May 23). From the forum it suggests that the issue occurs with other playback software when using UPnP also.

Suggest the OP tests streaming using a different transmission protocol (if available in Audirvana eg Airplay) to confirm it is limited to UPnP before contacting Wiim. Other posters suggest the problem does not occur when using Airplay to stream to the Wiim.

Are you running the Mac Mini headless? its connected to a tv.
Are connecting the Mac Mini wirelessly to the router? I guess, its connected via ethernet but then using ethernet from a node.

I’ll take a look at this, could be. I dont see them prioritising fixing it if they are promoting roon readiness though.

They seem to place priority on Roon Ready, Airplay and Chromecast over UPnP. I would try chromecast to the Wiim as you can still stream 24/96 files which is closer to the resolution of UPnP transmission rate of 24/192 files.

I would add one more thing. The forum site suggested they had released a beta of a fix in the latter posts. Have you updated the Wiim Pro to the latest firmware?

yeah perhaps not to a beta though.

yes i have done that before, i’ll check test that out.

Edit: I’ve just found a forum post from myself discussing how this works fine. I really must get tested sometime.

So this seems to do the trick. How annoying.

UPnP is unfortunately the forgotten child of many manufacturers. However they do like to quote the 24/192 capability of UPnP in their marketing BS!

Just wanted to note that UPnP isn’t limited to 24/192. I’m happily sending DSD512 over it.

That’s correct, depends on the manufacturer implementation. In this case the Wiim Pro limits sample rate to 24/192. I tend to use KEF streamers which accept inputs over network of 24/384 files and up to DSD 128. For some reason the KEFS downsample to 24/192 equivalent PCM sample rate for the wired speaker connection option and only 24/96 if you run the speakers with a wireless connection, I assume for stability of playback?
