Strange Studio behavior with my DAC SMSL PO100 AK

I just received an SMSL PO100 AK DAC and I have strange behavior with Audirvana Studio 2.4.0 on macmini (late 2012). Let me explain. firstly, the DAC is automatically recognized by Audirvana, no problem on this side. Now suppose I play 4 music files from a Tidal playlist, the first is a FLAC, the 2nd is an MQA and the 3rd and 4th are FLAC again. Well, when playing the 3rd file, the green MQA light stays on, both on the application and on the DAC, same thing with the 4th song and so on, until I quit and restart the 'application.
Do you think this is normal? Thanks for your help.
Regards
Malik

Hi @Malik,

Interesting, can you send us a copy of the “Debug Info” when you have this issue? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>My account

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

Please find attached the behavior of Audirvana When i select automatic detection from Audirvana (note that in this case My DAC displays Blue MQA indicator witch is “MQA Studio” according to the manufacturer.
When i deselect this option and choose the option MQA decoder, the green button with MQA disappears on the bottom right side on Audirvana and on the DAC the MQA indicator turns green, which corresponds to the “MQA” option for the DAC.
I suppose as mentioned in the DAC settings that Some DACs are not correctly recognized by Audirvana.
Please give me your opinion on this situation.

This is a known bug with MQA. Unless the manufacturer takes special steps to disable it (very few go to the effort and expense), once MQA processing is on, it stays on for the following files that are not MQA.

Now i’ve found how to remove MQA badge on Audirvana when not playing MQA file.
I went to the MQA Setup and disabled automatic detection of the DAC and selected “MQA Decoder” in the list.
That’s all until this bug will be solved if so.

Malik

It is doubtful the bug, which has persisted for years, will ever be resolved by MQA, which went bankrupt and has been purchased by another company. But at least Audirvana offers a workaround.

@Jud
Indeed.
But the only thing that bothers me a little is that in Audirvana, the songs in 16/44khz come out to the DAC in 32/44khz format. Is this normal?

Malik

P.S. see it in the screenshot joined:

You needn’t be concerned. This is called “zero padding,” where the DAC has 32 bits of processing space and the 16 missing bits are filled with zeroes.

It doesn’t change anything, any more than writing 1 as 1.00000000 changes the quantity. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Jud
Thank you so much for clarifying all these points.
Have a nice Weekend.
