With all due respect, but Hans is sometimes the butt of jokes on the Internet…

Are you assuming this two million picosecond “offset” remains absolutely consistent, or is it subject to variation (jitter)?

 He is speaking to clock stability… the audibility of pitch in relationship to sample-rate/frequency fluctuations (fast or slow) of the reference clock… The ‘phase noise’ is related to gross timing offsets due to accumulated jitter, which skews the analog output Left channel + Right Channel phase integrity in the D/A output circuitry, which is audible… He is describing that in digital-audio signals, the accuracy of the reference clock must be very good at the point of interpolation to analog… Of course, these things can be dynamic if the platform design topologies are not well orchestrated to provide the best possible opportunity for the platform components to perform at their relative optimum… If you look at where the reference clock is placed in any design topology it will always be on the shortest path.

If the signal has accumulated jitter, this will be the reference for the D/A interpolation… How much noise is too much? Only in the final audition of the analog output will we be able to subjectively assess the appreciable sound-quality of the music…

To be fair, anyone who has the temerity to stick their head up above the trenches of the “audiophile wars” will inevitably become the butt of jokes from the opposing camps, happens to all, Darko etc etc etc.

The only thing that appears missing from this debate is the mob of “bits is bits therefore all bit perfect playback has to sound the same” opinions, most commonly on a competitors forum. Always enjoy reading the ensuing pontification from both sides.

Enjoyed this thread, have learned quite a bit which will no doubt foster more research during my quiet times…

I have it, can’t get it to launch on the transporter, its there and downloaded correctly but there are no user setting adjustment I can find so it always sees just the MBP control point thereby going through the Mac OS?

Sound is very good but this is an unstable kit.

Depends on your setup. My main system is rock solid, has been since the Linux version came out.

In this thread you state that you use an opticalRendu, not a Sonic Transporter: Audirvana sounds much better in Linux! - #2 by Maxou
