Hi;
is there a streamer available on the market that has Audirvāna Core Player on board (Linux)?
I know I can make one myself on a Raspberry for example - but is there one on the commercial market?
Why Audirvāna Core Player on Linux? Why not just run Audirvāna on an Apple MacMini M4 with a decent level of RAM and SSD storage?
The sonic transporter from Small Green Computer has Audirvana Core as one of the options that you can install in their interface, by just selecting it.
It is technically not a streamer, but a music server.
I don’t know if it is available already, but as far as I know Antipodes and 3D Lab are going to include the core player in their firmware.
Mano Ultra mkIII.5 receives very good reviews.
OK - but can I want it my way?
Yes - I’m curious about 3D LAB proposition
Don’t know if it’s available with the needed firmware already as said. Antipodes have stated that it will likely come mid 2025. So it may take 3D Lab some time as well. Also it seems quite a challenge to pursue one where you have the option to listen first…
The remarks by @Agoldnear and @jmtennapel show interesting alternatives. Having the Apple Mac Mini or the Sonic Transporter functioning as a dedicated streaming device into a DAC of your choice could make the solution easier.
And as you say you can always have a go with a Raspberry Pi. That way you can try if the Core Player is your way to go.
Personally I installed Linux on an old Dell laptop and the Audirvāna Core Player works very well for me. As Linux with the Core Player is much easier on the CPU than Windows with the Audirvāna Windows version, I hear a distinct improvement in sound quality. I connect to a Naim ND5 XS 2 using UPnP.
What is the reason you are interested in the 3D Lab option?
It’s just that of the two companies that will potentially implement such a solution, 3D Lab is more, more cheaper.
Well, I think there are more to follow in the future. So the question is when and wether these options are going to be better based on price-quality…
What kind of device (DAC, streamer) do you use now to connect Audirvāna with?
MIBOX4 with AirReceiver app onboard to TOSLINK output
Well, in that case I think a dedicated device for audio streaming could make a big difference for your experience. The MiBox, as fas I know, is meant for audio and video right? The second hand market could be a great way to start the journey.
Do you listen over speakers or headphone mainly?
Yes - MIBOX is an android device for video and audio.
I listen over speakers connected to my simple AV receiver.
But I borrow a lot of equipment and do different experiments.
And honestly - the most important thing was the acoustic adjustment of my listening room.
Therefore, due to the expectation of system stability, I would like to try a streamer with Linux Core.
Well, Audirvana isn’t the most stable piece of software, also not on Linux. Most users of Audirvana endure the quirks, because of the sound quality, but if you want a stable experience you’d be better off with Bluesound or WiiM.
What nonsense are you writing, after all the Mano is cheaper. And it sounds amazing.
It is very flexible in terms of the working environment. You only need to change the SD card and you have what you want. It would be best if you buy with installed GentooPlayer, which supports Audirvana. GentooPlayer is a Linux system and has great kernel support.
Well, yes - that’s a reasonable approach.
What are you talking about?
“Mano” is cheaper than “antipodes” ???
Tell me please in which store - I’m going to buy in there any “antipodes” music Server-Streamer right away…
You must read carefully, dear Jacek!
I’m ending the topic.
I asked a simple question but, as usual, it ended with philosophizing…
Thank you all.
The cheapest Antipodes streamer-server I see is for about €6,500.
Mano streamer in the most expensive configuration (including power supply) does not exceed €2,400.
You could also buy a license for GentooPlayer and install it on a Raspberry Pi. GentooPlayer has a menu for installing Audirvāna Studio/Origin. I believe AudioLinux also has an option for installing Audirvāna, but I am not sure.
