Studio upsampling with SMS 200 - freezes mid song or on switch

Studio and SMS 200 and up-sampling - if I play local fine up-sampled, if i stream my audio freezes mid song or on switch

QUBOZ >AUDIRVANA>R8Brain2x>SMS200>Freeze
QUBOZ>AUDIRVANA>no upsample>sms-200>fine
Local>AUDIRVANA>R8Brain2x>SMS200>Fine

Generally if I reboot the sms 200 and thew computer I can get it playing again but then it just drops out.

Flying blind I have tried changing the config setting inside the sms 200 MDP/DNLA screen and increased the buffer from 4mb to 10MB and the buffer time from .5 to 2 seconds. Doesnt seem to have helped. Tried enabling universal upnp, no dice.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I truly enjoy the sound of R8Brain and would like to be able to use it without hassle.

Hi @jtexel92677,

Can you send us your audirvana.log file at support@audirvana.com?

It can be in two different locations :
C:\Users[your login]\AppData\Local\Packages\Audirvana.Audirvana-[… id number that can vary]\LocalCache\Local\Audirvana\Audirvana
C:\Users[your login]\AppData\Local\Audirvana\Audirvana

to show AppData folder:

Something you could try is dropping the upsampling. You can use r8brain with the Custom option and simply set the rates to the same as the default. Another words 44.1 = 44.1 , 88.2 = 88.2 etc. this will allow you to use r8brain without upsampling.

My upnp playback has had issues with long tracks @ 24/192 dropping out so perhaps test with 24/96 and 16/44.1

Additional: Avoid RAW PCM streams: No
You have tried this set to yes?

Sorry for the delay. It starting working ok for a couple day’s but now it is back to the same behavior. I tried emailing log file but it came back as a bounce.

I have attached the log file and debug info as link to download.

Thanks so much for your help, big fan.

Jason

Hi @jtexel92677,

Have you tried to enable the option avoid RAW PCM stream? We have made an update of Audirvāna Studio last week, do you get the issue with it?

I have not tried that but I will.

It still does it on latest update.

Will report back about the behavior after enabling that option.

Thanks

Jason

Hmm so it wont even play if I choose avaoid PCM stream. It seems to be something with audirvana and the sotm neo 200. When it freezes if i reset the mdp/dlna service on the Sotm Neo it will sometimes start working again.

What are you trying to up-sample and to what sample-rate (PCMxxx → PCMxxx or PCMxxx → DSDxxx)?
Are you using a router/switch? If so, try bypassing the router and connect the Ethernet signal from your computer directly to the Sotm box…

Also try increasing you playback buffer to 8GB
:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

Hey thanks for the response.

PCMxx usually power of 2 but limit at 192k. R8brain. No DSD.

I am testing the custom level with everything set to the same rate, so using r8brain filter but no up-sampling, no definitive result yet.

I am using a cradlepoint firewall. I could put my NUC on wifi and try that to try and rule out firewall. I lean toward not since I never seem to have to reboot it, but rebooting the sotm and audirvana will sometimes make it start playing again.

Playback buffer in Audrivana right? Not sotm, I dont think it has 8gb space anyways. Sorry just trying to be clear.

Thanks

Jason

Yes… the Audirvana playback buffer RAM allocation… Have you tried setting the bridge device settings in the DAC settings of Audirvana to 768kHz or No Limit?

EDIT:
I was looking at the SMS 200 specs… Does this Sotm box only support 192kHz? If so, set the bridge device max sample-rate to No Limit and see how that flys…

I was on no limit, I just changed to 192, will report back.

I am having the same issue. What was the solution?

Thank you!

Never found one.

My only slight workaround was to upgrade the flash card which maybe made it slightly faster. Then being very careful in Audirvana to not skip to the next song until it was done buffering the first. If I want to skip a song I need to browse manually to it and select it. It will still crash out after a few hours of play and everything will have to be reset but at least its semi workable.

Whilst f’ing around with all the crap my psu cable to the neo got damaged and ended up damaging the neo. It is with them now, I am going ot press them some about the issue once they get the unit working.

I will try and remember to update the thread once I hear something.
