Thank you :grinning: @Jud for sharing your experiences with Audirvana Studio on different Linux distributions. I am interested in your experience with Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS ; What differences did you notice that made it stand out as the best option for you?

If you read a little further, you’ll find the post I’ve linked below, and several others where I discuss the sound quality aspects that have resulted in my current preference for an Arch Linux minimal install. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi everyone,

I just stumbled upon this LHY AUDIO device on AliExpress, it’s a RP4 in a very nice metal case with linear power supply and a high quality OCXO clock which replaced the built in RPI4 3 way crystal oscillator. The device also has a 10MHZ master clock input, if one was to use an external master clock (like the LHY OCK-2).

Since I also have the LHY SW6 switch (with the same OCXO, linear PSU and 10Mhz master clock input), my idea is to run this RPI device as an Audirvana Studio DLNA server to my Beolab 28 speakers as a DLNA endpoint.

What’s your take, guys?

Hi - of all the RPI implementations I have seen this seems to be a very interesting one. It certainly has a couple of very nice items integrated into one enclosure. If you decide to go for it, keep us informed. I’m curious how this will optimally connect to your wireless speakers…

I hope you are aware that any product sold outside the LHY store on Beatechnik is probably a fake? One of the most copied brands in China. When in doubt, first send a message to the Beatnik store to verify if this is a legitimate product from LHY.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try to confirm with Beatechnik first. But I do intend to order it, it has a very nice aluminium case and the linear PSU side of things is already taken care of so I don’t need to mess with ugly external PSU boxes.

Since I have no experience whatsoever with Linux, is there a step by step guide to installing the Arch Linux minimal with Audirvana Studio on a RPI4?

Which is why I suggest you verify if it is a legit product first. If it is a botch job, those ā€˜nice’ components are near to useless and you pay a lot for them then.

You wouldn’t be the first one to order a LHY product from Ali Express, only to find out it’s a piece of junk. Like I said: for some reason there are a lot of products which haven’t been made my LHY in the first place, or ever conceived by them, but wear the logo.

As you say @jmtennapel, I’m not entirely sure this product is legitimate.
No mention of it whatsoever on the Beateechnik website:

Apologies if mistaken.

Arch Linux is best for people with some Linux experience. My suggestion would be to install a distribution made specifically for the Pi. You should be able to find guides for installation on the web. Also, if you need further help, there are at least a couple of folks here who have done it. (I don’t own a Pi.)

I’ve had good luck with Raspberry Pi OS, documented here …

The LHY box specifications do not describe the amount of installed RAM, which should be the most important consideration in regard to performance.

Yes, I noticed that too. I sent a message to the seller, still no reply. Should I skip it if it’s only 2GB?

Also sent an email to Beatechnik, waiting for their reply.

A week ago I inquired with Vinshine Audio, and they said they had no plans to sell the LHY RPI, and offered a Mercury V2 instead.

Thanks, will check it out

People have managed it, but that strikes me personally as way low.

From the main website:

Seems like the Mercury V3 is the better choice with available 4GB RAM and all relevant output formats… Don’t get too hung-up on the SMP…

Yeah, but I have no use for such a streamer. My intention is to use the RPI as Audirvāna DLNA server only, so I won’t need any of the digital outputs they are offering. My active speakers (Beolab 28) already have a built in streamer (DLNA renderer) and DAC, so I am focused only on the server aspect.

On the other hand, I already have the LHY SW6 switch on order, and the possibility to use a master clock later to sync the clocks on both the server and the switch is kind of intriguing.

Lastly, there is the aesthetic side of things. The LHY devices look much better, and they are CNC machined and built like tanks.

A 2GB Raspberry Pi works without problems. The SD card makes the difference.
