Shamelessly copying @phas02’s idea, here are a detailed set of instructions for installing headless Audirvana Studio on Raspberry Pi OS (64bit). Please reply with any mistakes so I can correct them.
Create your microSD card using the Raspberry Pi Imager
Temporarily mount your music library and setup persistent mount
sudo mount -t cifs //[library-ip-address]/[share-name] /home/[username]/Music -o username=,password=[share-password]
edit /etc/fstab and add the line:
//[library-ip-address]/[share-name] /home/[username]/Music cifs _netdev,username=[share-username],password=[share-password]
Other system tweaks
edit /etc/sysctl.conf and add line at end:
fs.inotify.max_user_watches=65536
sudo sysctl -p
edit /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf and modify this line:
use-ipv6=no
When you have Audirvana up and running on the Raspberry Pi do you see the dlna/upnp devices connected on the network via the Audirvana remote, or is there further steps needed to show those endpoints. i would like to give this ago, I did try the NAS install which was so easy to setup, however my Synology only has 512 MB of ram onboard and fixed not upgradeable so just not able to do the job. thought the PI a cheaper optiion rather than a new NAS.
Cheers
Dennis
I see my Chromecast endpoints ‘automatically’, meaning they show in Remote with no additional steps. If you are comfortable with a bit of Linux, the Raspberry Pi 5 is a wonderful solution!
Thanks Bruce
I ordered the Raspberry Pi 5 with 8 gig onboard and the hat as well whether i use it or just the power supply, thought could be handy depending where i place the pi. Thanks for the reply, i may shout out for help when it comes to setting up.
all the best
Dennis
After some effort I managed to install Audirvana on the Raspberry PI 4 4Gb.
Given that it is truly incredible that everything works perfectly and that the iPadOS interface is able to control every aspect of the program, I must however add that the result in terms of listening is not comparable with Audirvana Desktop on MacMini even though it is dated, late 2012.
I know the reason but the music seems “off”, the transients are slow to attack and the upsampling, predictably, barely bearable up to DSD 128, becomes tiring at 256 and impractical at 512.
But I realize that it cannot be blamed to Audirvana what is a hardware limitation.
I’m currently sticking with Audirvana Studio on MacMini.
I follow the developments and appreciate the efforts of the developers.
I need some help please, using a raspberry pi 5 with debian installed all updates, i installed Audirvana with a package manager and i do see the program in the opt / directory as it should be, tried the excutable in the folder to launch after reboot but not working, audirvana remote doesn’t see it. Sadly have no idea how to trouble shoot any advice greatly appreciated.
cheers
Dennis
Well I did, i was a little confused where to put that edit line, the order of the install commands
** edit /opt/audirvana/studio/share/etc/audirvanaStudio.service, add this line just above ExecStart …* ExecStartPre=/bin/sleep 10
ExecStart and bin/sleep 10, what it that all about?
I firstly used the package manager to install the program, that didn’t seem to work, uninstalled everything then went the sudo commands way.
I copied the Audirvana install into the Root directory manually and adjusted the apt install line accordingly to reflect the path. It then executed ok, but ended up with user permissions denied error.
i did something else which seem to give permissions, but as i said really don’t know what i am doing, just following instructions parrot style.
Don’t think that edit line was executed correctly , tried nothing happened, Should I un-install the program again. Is Audirvana installed elswehere as well as the /opt directory?
What do you suggest?
Could you please list the order/command lines again if it wasn’t too much trouble and any other trouble shooting ideas?
Don’t worry about that particular edit, it’s probably not required. I’ve not changed anything since my original post, so refer to the top of this thread for reference.
Hi Bruce
The package installer was the only way i got Audirvana to work…
The caveats i have that i cannot get the program to start from boot. So i need to go into the Audirvana folder and lauch the execute file for it to run,
When i tried to add those commands from sudo didn’t work and then found I could no longer start the program from the exec folder. Had to uninstall and re do for it to work…
i guess down the track ill figure out what i am doing wrong with experience and also the usb drive where my music is installed, Audirvana does see it but wont load the folder,
Sadly i wish the experience was like Jriver you just install with the package manager and you can do all the adjustments from the graphical
interface.
Thank you for assistance
regards
Dennis
Been busy doing other things ,the command line does work for me * sudo /opt/audirvana/studio/setAsService.sh enable and the Audirvana did start from boot . Now i don’t see the usb drive where the music folder is located, actually can’t add any folders I can see.
I gather i am now if the root directory when Audirvana starts this way. totally lost sorry. Assuming fstab file needs editing… For me, linux challenged in the interim I delete Audirvana, re install and using a vnc viewer go in execute the program from the studio folder and all is good i see the usb drive etc …
So just a little messing around, buts works, sadly i wish it was a little like jriver linux install self configure really and not headless…
Hey, I am pretty new to this and will try to set this up. One question: Is it possible to use an audio HAT like Hifiberry Digi+ PRO with this solution or are only default hardwarwe options like USB available as digital output?
Hi @jags, I did not have luck with a Hifiberry DAC2 Pro on RP5 as Audirvana did not recognize it. That said, I did not spend a ton of time trying to debug it.
Hello everyone
I have a Mano Ultra III.5 with Rasperry Pi 5 as computer. The installation went smoothly thanks to the instructions, but Audirvana does not see the I2S output and therefore the DAC. Can anyone help me?
I think the question should be whether Audirvana on PRI5 could be configured with an HAT like Hifiberry Digi+ PRO?
This is not clear from instructions, or at least not mentiond.
Looks like this is not easy to do or even impossible?
I have not added I2S in the list as I have not tried it enough with the software but can add a mention of it in the text. I don’t really know how much this connection is used with Audirvāna.
