TIDAL playback micro-pausing and skipping HELP!

Hello all. I’ve seen this coming out across this forum several times. My playback experience has deteriorated and I can’t figure out why.

My playback (source: Tidal) is uneven and stops for perhaps a second, then resumes, and then it stops perhaps one minute later. The song micro-pauses un-evenly during playback, resulting in a miserable experience. Please help!

All the best, Ed

Hello @Eduardomec,

Can you send me a copy of the “Debug Info” while you have the issue? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>General>Debug Info

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

also to give you context:

The sample track where the problem is quite irritating is Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons (FLAC MQA 16b/44.1 Khz), upsampled with SOX to 88.2 (makes a substantial difference so I don’t want to give this up).

Used to work flawlessly until perhaps a month ago. Actions taken:

  1. turn upsampling on and off - no effect
  2. rebuilt everything at the maintenance section in settings
  3. played with max memory alloc’d for track pre loads - no effect
  4. Ran all windows updates
  5. Changed audirvana’s processor priority in task manager.

Nothing really works. sometimes it is worse, sometimes it is better. But in general, the song micro-pauses about every 10 seconds, but this interval is irregular.

If you can help me, I can help you back by documenting the issue and posting it for the other users in the forum.

Thanks, Ed

Oh, and the playback device: Douk USB to coax converter, then coax RCA cable sent to my Onkyo AVR.

It’s pointless to have upsampling active on MQA files. Audirvana will “unfold” the MQA file to the same resolution anyway.

Try to reduce the pre-load memory allocation to 2048MB.

Hello @Eduardomec,

Can you do a test in WASAPI instead of ASIO in the audio output menu? Have you also made a test by selecting your Denon in the audio output?

Hello @Antoine and @bitracer - thanks for your responses.

So, the problem went away. I can’t precisely point what was the actual culprit, but I did log everything system-wise that I did.

  1. SOX left as it was.
  2. Memory usage reduced to 2048 Mb
  3. Audirvana process priority in task manager increased to above normal (doubt this would have anything to do but who knows)
  4. updated motherboard and video drivers
  5. swapped USB ports

After a few reboots, noticed I could playback perfectly for hours, so I’m considering this as closed. What actually did the trick is somewhat cloudy but it has to be some of the actions above.

Your product is amazing.

Best wishes to you and family, Ed

Oh, @Antoine, why is that that Audirvana detects 5 Denon AVRs in upnp, though I obviously only have one? Anyway we can hide the duplicates?

Cheers

This is a HEOS compatibility issue that need to be solved, we contacted Denon about it and they told us that we need to integrate HEOS to have the proper detection… This is for the moment not our development priority but we will surely taking a look a it when it will be possible in our schedule.
