Tired of all this

Library sync - Beach ball of death
Play a track -Beach ball of death
Pause a track -Beach ball of death
open folder -Beach ball of death
Playlist -Beach ball of death

Leave the program…check e mails
Beach ball of death

theres a pattern…

I even recently brought a4 TB WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB SSD, M.2 2280 NVMe SSD thinking that would help …no

I have a Apple M1 Max 64gb

There has been offers to connect to my Mac remotely to look and see whats going on , but I’m very reluctant to let someone have access to my computer remotely

My machine seems to stop when the SYNC in in process - Can I tun this off m as I rarely add to my collection

If I downgrade to Origin - would that help

Any advice would be helpful before I close my subscription

I really like the sound quality of the app - but all the beach balls and crashes has started to make me think twice about using the app

Thanks

For reference, I have no playback problems…

System:

  • macOS 15.3.2
  • M2 Max Mac Studio, 64GB of System RAM,
  • Audirvāna Studio 2.10.2
  • Music library SSD is attached locally via USB 3.0
  • USB 3.0 transmission to a USB 3.0 regen/reclock interface that translates the USB protocol from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 and through galvanic isolation, delivers the signal via a very short 4-inch USB 2.0 printed-circuitboard ‘cable’ to my DAC.

Paste your debug information in the thread and include any information about how you are connecting with your DAC and accessing your music library.

My audio is connected vi the SPFIF out from the Mac to a Beringer DAC then to my Hi fi

Two things to try:

  1. If your DAC has a USB input, try that instead of the SPDIF. Disconnect whatever device you use for the SPDIF signal.
  2. Delete the library, put a few tracks on your local hard drive of the MAC, create a new library from those tracks, disconnect your external drive.

Do the beach balls remain under either scenario?

All was good then it started to sync again and now have a unusable Mac
I will do as You suggested , but I can’t see why it would make a difference
I think I’m over this program and I will uninstall and find an alternative

Perhaps the Developers may have a suggestion - but I paper to be the only one with this issue so perhaps my machine is not up to the job

Your call

A M1 with 64 GB of RAM should be more than up to the job. After all we are talking about playing music here which is not a extremely heavy duty task for a computer to do.
I have had a similiar ‘beach ball’ problem a couple of years ago on a Windows PC and that was due to a failing internal SSD. It certainly had nothing to do with Audirvana.

Your machine (if functioning correctly) certainly is up to the job, but there may be some issue with your configuration or hardware. I am afraid the problem has little to do with Audirvana because otherwise this forum would be flooded with people with the same issue.

Maybe I am stating the obvious, but did you try running Audirvana on a completely different computer?

I doubt that Audirvana Origin over Audirvana Studio will make a difference, because it seems that your problem has to do with local library access which is the same in both.

Did Audirvana support made the offer to connect to your Mac remotely? I understand you are reluctant about giving access, but in this case maybe it will lead to a solution?

I understand your frustration and good luck with finding the root of your problem

HI Andy
I’ve given support another Log - perhaps this will help.
I agree with you , It’s not the programme as everyone would be having the problem. I’m married to a cyber security person ( who has published books about the matter ) and has advised me against a remote connection) but I think it maybe the only way

I’m pretty sure that it normally happens when its syncing with libraries

I actually really like the app but its at the point that I’m reluctant to use it, which is a shame

if it happens when syncing… there must be a files or albums, that stop the process…

like before said, trash your library… add just one folder of the 3 you have… sync it… see if it goes through… when syncing you can see the files name upthere passing fast… if it stop or beach ball… try to see where you were at syncing an check that folder…

update your mac to 15.4

Thanks, I’ll do that now
so I assume I just locate the path ( as in the app ) and remove it ?
I will add one folder at a time and monitor it
will update os first
thanks for the advice

If the error occurs with the first folder, you might want to try the other folders still. If the error occurs with every folder, than there is likely an issue with the internal SSD as @AndyLubke said.

Just installed the os update
Not the SSD , it was the same before that, when I had Sata SSD and a regular HD

So Deleted Database, uninstalled Audrivana
re installed and added one database - will see how it works before I add another

If it works well after the first folder, close audirvana and copy that working database somewhere as a backup, before adding the second…

so far so good
Will do as you suggest - copy the database and add the second

When you get your data-base sorted out, here is some more food for thought.

I see your posts on the Apple Support Forum…

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255256031?sortBy=rank

You need to simplify this down…You cannot have your headphones connected and the UCA202 USB interface active at the same time unless you create an Aggregate Device… Since you get signal output from the UCA202, you can either listen to the analog outs or the S/PDIF outputs, I don’t think you get both simultaneously in this playback scenario, and the highest file sample-rate that you can play on this device is 16/44.1kHz or 16/48kHz… The Mac Studio headphone output DAC is capable to 32/44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz and 96kHz . You must choose which one you want to use… I suggest using the Mac Studio headphone output DAC using the analog stereo cable to your HiFi.

In Audio MIDI Setup you must always define the “Output” device and make sure the sample-rate settings match the DAC capabilities.

Also if you are networking your music library via WiFi, this is a bad idea… Ethernet is your friend.

This is a bad idea… If you were to do this, the proper signal-flow would be this: Mac Studio USB → UCA202–> analog output or optical S/PDIF out → HiFi .

Hi Agoldnear
seeing as you found my post/help on the apple forum - perhaps I should explain ( I thought I closed it - as it had been resolved )

so

At the Moment my hardware set up is ( This was done by an Ex -BBC studio technician )

Mac Studio - USB C (Rear of Mac to SPDIF out to Optical in on Beringer Ultramatch Pro Model SRC2486 (Audiophile 24-bit/96KH a/d - d/a and sampling rate converter ) Also Optical out of the afore detailed into USB C in on rear of Mac

Selection of sound input Spdif or in ( depending on what Im doing works without any issues )

On the Beringer just need to select either in or out - works perfectly

It also has analogue ins and outs

so connected is master out - with goes to my amp
and I can select Phono/Tape etc and this goes to the beringer - and then ultimately to the mac for digital recording

It all works very well and is set the the approaite sampling retes

The music is not networked and is only played via my local amp

I hope this has explained my set up

as far as my DB is concerned , its all working very well at the moment , I have one more folder to add

If I were to use Headphones - they would be via my Amp
The Heaphone socket on the Mac has a small set of Desktop speakers (Edifer ) connected and I the are switched off when I route Via SPDIF ( Called Hog mode I think )

ray

all databases done - seems to be stable
I will monitor for a few days to see how it goes - maybe I had a corrupt database

Why limit your playback sample-rates with the Ultramatch Pro?

Here’s some food for thought if expense is a consideration:
Use a conventional DAC for Audirvāna Studio playback and relegate the Ultramatch Pro as your A/D in your recording loop.

This is a very inexpensive high-resolution DAC:

Review:

You can employ ‘Power of Two’ upsampling strategy on lower resolution PCM files or convert to DSD…
