Unable to open an audio file for playback - error for some Tidal tracks

Hello! I recently started experiencing issues not being able to play some songs that previously played just fine, getting error (Unable to open an audio file for playback). I need some help with this please.

I’m using Tidal as streamer. I have already tried reinstalling the app, making sure that Tidal is no open while using Audirvana, but, the issue persists. The strange thing is that this is only happening when playing some specific songs; however, when I use the Tidal app, or the web version of Tidal, those same songs start playing without any issues. The issue only happens on Audirvana.

Just as a reference, one of the songs I’m having issues with is Joga by Björk, along with many others from different artists.

Below I attached the Debug info from Audirvana right after getting this error.

Hello,
I have the same problems when playing Wilco albums (MQA files). I recently updated my MacBook Air to Big Sur.

Hello @greg1 and @Rodrigoiki, can you make a screenshot of Audirvana while you have this issue?

Hi @Antoine, thanks for the reply. I can confirm the issue is no longer happening. What I would assume is that this might be similar to one of those error messages you get when you try to open many tabs in some websites, and you get locked out for 24hrs for making too many requests to the server.

Hopefully, this won’t be something recurrent. Thanks again!

HI there,

same issue for me today many times (e.g. James Taylor albums and many others), before with 3.5.41 never had problems.

Thank you in advance for the precious help

Cristian

There are now multiple songs/albums that the TIDAL interface with Audirvana will not open or play or will open the wrong song. Open these files in the TIDAL app works perfectly so its in the way that the request is being passed from Audirvana. I am using Audirvana Mac Version 3.5.50 (3580)
macOS 12.4.0 with 16384MB RAM

Using TIDAL IN Audirvana it will NOT OPEN these example files BUT USING THE TIDAL APP THEY WILL OPEN!

Ellusive Affinity - Anna Gourari
Bach: Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 -Grigory Sokolov
And Justice for None - Five Finger Death Punch
A Decade of Destruction Vol2 - Five Finger Death Punch
S&M2 - Metallica - Side 2

A few examples of music that will NOT load from Audrivana but WILL load direct from Tidal

I’m having the same problem. I’m not using the new Tidal pay as you go account but the one I’ve purchased.

yeah similar issues here. MacBook Pro M1 14" OS v12.4

While I can see the Tidal entries, no tracks will play in Studio. The original Audirvana app I keep around won’t even show the Tidal interface today. :frowning:

Maybe something wrong at the Tidal end? Wouldn’t be the first time…

Certainly could be, but the Tidal app is working fine for me.

I am also having these issues on 3.5.

The workaround of lowering quality to high, instead of lossless/master, seems to allow all songs to play as expected. Obviously this is not the quality we came here for, so I am hoping that data point assists in resolution.

After a bit of investigating, I found this on another thread which seems to indicate that Audirvana is aware of the issue and have tracked it down to a Tidal issue and are awaiting a fix: No MQA / Masters Streaming with Tidal Anymore - #12 by Antoine
