User’s interface design upgrade!

Any plan to upgrade audirvana interface of the player on website / app / mobile etc.? Roon’s interface design is much better!

When I don’t know but @Antoine has mentioned that this is a wish from the side of the Audirvāna team as well.

Until then I enjoy the quality of the sound which in my set up beats Roon.

Roon’s UI/player is bloated trying to be everything for everybody… This is why you will read countless remarks from former Roon users about how much better Audirvāna sounds in comparison…

Totally agree that Roon is bloated compared to Audirvana. The Roon “now playing” UI is extremely slick.

One low-hanging-fruit upgrade for Audirvana might be incorporating the AllMusic artist information (visible when browsing an artist) and the AllMusic album information into the mini-player.

Maybe the solution is to press the Roon team to improve the output sound-quality of their software, rather than adding bloat to Audirvāna… :wink: Apparently it takes something like the Taiko Extreme server or Olympus servers to pull the best from Roon…

Back in the day, I spent a month evaluating Roon and Audirvana. One of the most frustrating things I encountered: Roon can be downright recalcitrant about ‘helping’ with metadata. My entire library is tagged exactly how I want … but the best you can do is >suggest< that Roon favor local metadata … in many many cases it insisted on using its own metadata pulled from the cloud.

Happy Easter!

I guess different folks have different preferences. Roon operates on more of what I’d describe as a “search” interface, displaying what you might find with a web search of a recording or artist. Audirvana uses a simple alphabetical sort, according to sort criteria you select (though it also has a search function).

I personally have my local stuff alphabetically sorted the way I want, and for my streaming service I can use the search function, so Audirvana is set up nicely for me. But perhaps the Audirvana folks can find some way to please both of us. :+1:

I see the salient point being how to insure/preserve the quality of sound we have come to expect from Audirvāna on bare minimum computer platforms/configurations… Adding computational overhead is not the way to go, unless the computer platform can support the overhead… :thinking: … What is plainly evident in the case of Roon performance, something like a Taiko server is required to get the best sound-quality from the bloated Roon architecture.

One thing (I hope) we all agree on: getting more paying customers on Audirvana is a good thing for everyone.

Adding friendly wrinkles to the UI is potentially a win-win, and such mods do not involve the audio playback chain. Expanding the methods of music discovery as @Jud illustrates is one such possibility. Enriching the UI to make the existing AllMusic interface more useful is another.

Re-stating for clarity: not every UI enhancement very appeals to everyone, but if they expand the user base that is a great thing.

Try this discovery engine…

Do not the streaming music services provide enough discovery potentials? :roll_eyes:
There is no ‘free-lunch’ in adding more bloat to Audirvāna.

Sound-quality has expanded the base and will continue to expand the base…

Well it’s a non-starter for me.

Audirvāna = Yugo
Roon = Ferrari

Literally

How do you justify this assertion?

My screenshot seems to tell it all

While music discovery is fascinating & useful, neither @Jud or I were suggesting enhancing Audirvana along those lines … both of us were referring to organizing one’s own local music library.

I have played with LivePlasma! I especially like the way it presents results in such a visual fashion. Here’s a totally different experiment to try:

  • cut-and-paste a list of all the artists in your library into ChatGPT (or Gemini, Claude, etcetera)
  • then ask it questions on specific artists in your list
  • you can qualify your queries any way you like: show me aditional artists, artists who released a new album in the past year, whatever comes to mind
  • the difference here is ChatGPT will answer based on your entire library, not one artist at a time, so the “new ideas” will be more relevant

Give it a whirl!

You won’t find me feeding the monster… :smirk:

Apparently you did not see my response to your post where I found ‘The New Pornographers’ in Live Plasma :roll_eyes:

You responded to my post to OffRode, asking him to justify the assertion he posted… :smirk:

No I replied to you, as you can see in my response. At any rate, it doesn’t work for me. What else can I say.

Perhaps Audirvana=Ferrari and Roon=Rolls. :wink:

One is stripped down and high performance, the other luxury with all the bells and whistles.

I did give Roon a good tryout, but its UI just wasn’t for me. I recognize many, perhaps most, people feel differently.
