Volume Control Issues - Not a smooth control

I’m trying out Audirvana to see if I like it better than Roon, and so far I like it, however the volume control slider jumps way too much when trying to control it in the Audirvana software. In Roon and JRiver the volume matches my AudioControl Maestro X9 processor volume and scrolling the mouse allows 1dB incremental increases/decreases. Is there anyway to get this to work the same in Audirvana… it’s really aggravating. It’s probably going to be enough to make me stay with Roon if there is no fix for it.

Hello @Sonnie, have you tried to enable software volume control in Audirvana? This allows you to have a much more precise volume you can set in Audirvana.

Yes… when I change it, it did not make a difference, still jumpy and erratic.

I was going to try it out on my other laptop to see if it was doing on it as well, to eliminate it being my laptop, but I couldn’t find a way to download it on my other laptop without paying extra. Maybe I’m missing something, or it’s not obvious enough for me to figure it out.

To confirm… I was able to download another trial version on my other laptop, and it is the same. Attempting to adjust volume is not smooth, and jumps several dB with each attempt to adjust volume.

I am surprised there are no more complaints about this if it is the same on all computers. When using JRiver or Roon, it’s as smooth as butter, increases volume in 1dB increments and shows my volume control from the AudioControl Maestrol X9. Volume readings should match your device.

I confirm the behavior (in OS X Catalina, Hegel H120).

Playing with the volume bar at the bottom right of the screen is erratic when you ask audirvana to control the volume of your AMP.
For me it is clearly the volume bar widget that is not robust enough when handled with the mouse.

Using the volume keys on the mac has that kind of behavior.
Volume control trough the iphone/ipad remotes works seamlessly.

In the desktop app, I would prefer a small plus and minus controls to have a fine grained control.

Hope this helps sorting out what is probably a small bug.

Hello @Gaetan_BE, when we took a look at your video we can see that Audirvana is sending to your DAC the change of the audio volume but it seems that your DAC have too much volume change information to process and and send to Audirvana the wrong volume information. Have you try to enable Software volume control in Audirvana output settings to see if you have better results @Sonnie ?

Do you have the same behavior as Gaetan_BE has? When you change the output volume it takes some time to be changed in Audirvana?

Yes… it is very sporadic. There is nothing good about the volume control.

When I change my volume with my remote, it does not change in Audirvana.

JRiver and Roon use my endpoint volume control… they use the same volume number and basically replicate it. It’s not a complicated thing, so not sure why you would not offer the same control.

It does not only rely on Audirvana, it’s about the UPnP implementation and how the device is able to notify his volume faster enough. We do use your endpoint volume control when you don’t have software volume enabled.

Smooth as butter on Roon and JRiver, but I like Audirvana’s interface better… with the exception of the silly round album covers for artist. Album covers are square. :wink:
