Volumio device wiht 3.5 Stuck Showing "Loading first Track...."

I have installed Audirvana 3.5.50 (3580) on my M2 Max Mac Studio with Sonoma, the Library is in two local external HD not on a NAS or network and i try to use an exetrnal DAC.
Audirvana have a strange behaviour. First Scan the Library ( that is very big) every time is launched and after that (that is a problem itself) stucks when play starts showing “Loading first track…”.
Yesterday i mas able to start a play but Audirvana crashes after some minutes.
Please help me to solve the problem. Debug Info Appended.
Thanks a lot.

Best Regard
Vincenzo Corrado

Hi @Maqrol,

Can you try to use this output in Audirvāna and check if you have an issue with this one?

Excuse me for the late response but i have been out for a many days. Using
Mac Studio Speakers or Studio Display speaker works fine.
It seems that the only Device not working is Volumio (A Raspberry with a DAC and Volumio software that is the reason i use Audirvana …).

Vincenzo

You are allocating nearly 100% of your 65536MB system RAM for playback pre-load memory…

Max. memory for audio buffers: 62464MB

Reduce the pre-load memory to 8 GB…

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

You unplug your hard drive, and back on? don’t know how to read debug, but many not implemented and ERROR_OCCURRED PlaybackStorageMedium

With 65gb of memory, yes lower it down but to 55000, plenty for macOS after, and songs will load much faster.

Why do you think 55GB will load faster than 8GB? … 8GB should easily load a several minute-long DSD128 track and easily an album of 16/44.1kHz songs… Who needs 55 GB of pre-load memory? or even 16 GB? You have to remember this cache must be dumped/cleared…

I was thinking the same thing… maybe reset the whole network starting with the router.
When I forget to power on my library drive, the playback display will show “Loading first Track…” until it is powered-on.

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

I don’t want to go in this memory thing… when you have plenty, you give plenty…
Why do you think 55GB will load faster than 8GB? just try it… you have 16gb if i remembered… put it at 4gb… see your track loading… then put it at 12gb… going faster?

This person didn’t change his or her memory buffer i’m pretty sure… he used the default setting from Audirvana… it is easy to see that, till when Audirvana exist, Damien set this memory buffer thing… it is on the old manual since before 3.5… keep 2.5gb for the macOS system to run properly (ok maybe give 3gb now since on more hungry Sonoma)… then, Damien decided that the rest will be used for Audirvana buffering or just use to play your songs… DSD128 or upsampling to pcm 384 not important…

It is not used memory always… it is a buffer memory, the faster it is buffed in memory, the faster the system is in sleeping mode after or can manage upsampling or plugin… if you have 16gb memory Damien set it to be by DEFAULT 13.xxx gb not me… i have 20gb and set it to 17gb (less then Damien set it, but 17 is my number  ), i will not go to 8gb, never had a problem with anything related to that or not finishing song, repeated at end or tic noise or weird sound happening… yes when you only have 8gb, don’t go over 5gb… but when you have 64gb… WTF, you can run hundred of Audirvana with that amount

it is easy to see that 8gb will be slower then 55gb… just load a track like Close to the edge by Yes or any super long song at 24/192 or any Hd track and watch the blue line buffering that song… 55gb will load that song way faster then with 8gb, then the macOS system is free to sleep…

With 8gb buffer when you have 64gb… the line will take longer to finish then not resting the masOS… the faster it buffed the faster it rest or can do other things…

My 2 cents (forgot that expression) might be it

Yes you can lower the default settings if you use plugin or upsampling to max your DAC can, but unless you play bit perfect…,

I sent you a message, rather than derail this post… :sunglasses:

I have reduced the memory to 8GB and after to 4GB. Unfortunately nothing has changed.
The app stucks.

Try resetting you network by shutting down your DAC then the router and NAS and then the computer and then start the router first and then the NAS, then start the computer, wait for the system to boot, power the DAC and then launch Audirvana…

Setted to 55GB but does not work!

the bug is not memory it is your hard drive where the music is…

I Will try to reset network but i do not use a NAS. Audio file are in an external drive connette with USB.

Is the drive getting power?

@Maqrol Is the USB drive connected to your computer or the router?

It sees your folder but can’t play the files… are they all grey or black when you look at the tracks

you have a big library of music ?? you can set it like new if you can’t find the solution.

Just remove your folders in preferences of Audirvana with the minus sign… all sonsg will be erase form the main window (not for real), then close Audirvana restart computer open Audirvana and add your 2 library again and let it sync…

Audirvana can read correctly the tracks and play them fine if i select as output another device diffrent from VOLUMIO with DAC. With Mac Speaker and the Studio display Speaker Works fine.
So i don’t think is a problem related to HD.

Read your answer again, so don’t trash folders if it can read them fine with other dac, thing… through Audirvana… volumio is the problem then

Try to update your Sonoma to last version first…

Connect the DAC to the computer directly… if you get playback, then work from there…

Sonoma is Updated. I Think (but not sure) the problem has starting with installazione of Sonoma.
Before it works.
