Why do some DACs / Bridges get certain features?

Hi

Recently moved from having a iFi Zen Stream as my streaming transport / bridge to a HoloAudio Red streamer

I have very mixed playlists of various formats, sample rates and bit depths. For some reason changing between say 44.1 and 48 kHz on some tracks or between DSD and FLAC gives my DAC (MScaler / Hugo TT2) indigestion

So the ‘Additional Latency when changing spl Rate’ Feature is really, really essential to not have my speakers spewing loud static a few times in a listening session

With the Zen Stream that option for ‘Additional Latency when changing spl Rate’ was there - but now for the HoloAudio Red as the Bridge its gone.

Can someone help me understand how it is there for some DACs / Bridges and not for others?

This and several other buggy aspects of Audirvana (mainly the fact that many of the play customization features in the remote app such as ‘Play Next’ and ‘Add to Playlist’ just don’t work for me - returning ‘request errors’ even when sat next to the router, have had me looking at ROON.

I am using both currently in a bake off and had I not discovered the inferior sound quality of ROON (so far) in my system - I would be now looking to move away from Audirvana because the ROON interface customizability and consistent features set as well as a remote that just works are currently superior

I would love to get to the bottom of why the remote app is broken for me and why the ‘Additional Latency when changing spl Rate’ is not available with some bridges as I would prefer to stay with Audirvana

So it’s not just a dac but MScaler+dac … to try to narrow the issue remove the MScaler from the chain to verify if the issue is still there

What you describe is strange, the Additional Latency when changing spl Rate is only available when you are using a local device like a USB connected device. It should be displayed when you are using UPNP device. I will double check this with the team.

Is there scope to add this delayed playout for remote destinations?

Audirvana controls the playout so you could have the delay configureable in Audirvana and then Audirvana delay the playout of the next track to the destination - Streamer, speaker etc?

Both Roon and even Foobar seem to offer this ability and as I say I believe it was available in Audirvana with the Zen Streamer (as I configured it)

One of the other interesting changes I noticed was that the Zen Streamer did not allow for any volume control on the streamer itself by Audirvana

The HoloAudio Red does allow for Audirvana to have volume control over the HoloAudio Red depending on whether I select ‘Hardware’, ‘None’ or ‘Software’ from the HoloAudio Red configuration page

Perhaps the Zen Streamer was treated somehow as a ‘local’ device (it is an Audirvana certified device) and maybe that is why there was the facility to configure a playout delay?
