AS can not play song, Roon can and Finder can

… AS says Unable to open file for playback. It’s a Flac file. Finder and Roon can play it

Hi @KnockKnock,

Please provide more information when you start a new thread

You need to put at least the debug info so everyone can help you.

Can you send us a copy of the “Debug Info” when you have this issue? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>My account

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

Does this folder is also synced with Roon? Do you have Roon opened at the same time as Audirvāna?

Yes, I had Roon opened at the same time. And yes Roon and AS share same music folder. I now closed Roon and deleted my AS path to music, and synced it again. Some tracks are missing. I can see them in my library, and also play them by hitting spacebar (MacOsX). Roon also sees them and play them, but AS can not.

Can you go in the Audirvāna settings and in the My account section? You will see a button ‘Start Log Session’, click on it and then reproduce your issue. After you reproduced it, click on ‘Stop Log Session’ and then send me the log file you can find by clicking on the button ‘Open Log Folder’ at support@audirvana.com

Any news why Roon and Macosx can play all my files, but AS cannot? :grinning:

Can the file be played if you replace the ‘ø’ with an ‘o’?

I now synced with a completely different backup drive with all my music. AS still has this issue. Roon has not.
Will it help to completely uninstall AS (with a uninstaller like CleanMyMac)? And then install again?

best Kurt

I would try one thing, you have allocated too much RAM for audio buffering (13.3 GB out of 16 GB) this is starving the OS. I would not think this is related to your issue but you should drop this to 6 - 8 GB in the Audirvana settings page (Audio tab, buffer setting). The OS would be limited for RAM when the buffer is fully used.

I would try again with this setting whilst waiting for Audirvana to get back to you.

I was happy for a minute or two. I moved all music to brand-new SSD drive. Restarted Mac. Deleted path to old drive. Made a new path to new drive. Synced. And NOW Audirvana asked me to update Sys optimizer. I did, and then I could play my files!!! Slowly one by one. But it was a short ride, after a few minutes I could not play my music. Not even from Qobuz. AS looks as always, it just does not play when I hit play…And YES I again can play my files from within macOS by simply hitting spacebar from the files inside my new SSD drive.

Update of MacosX this morning, a new SSD drive and Sys optimizer in AS did the trick. Now I can play the files. I will highlight the SOLUTION button if all goes well the next few days. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. :grinning:

Same issue. AS won+t play anything. I have NOT changed anything since yesterday, only thing is that Mac has not been in use and there for booted up again. Not playing Qobuz either.

Did you try the adjustment that @Djm1960 had recommended?

Try this one set to yes as a test

Yes I adjusted to 8GB. Can´t find RAW PCM streams.

Now it works after turn off/on AS again. But for how long? Strang thing is that when it´s not working, the tracks are not greyed out meaning they are found and playable. But nothing happens, not even Qobuz. The PLAY icon just stays put and doesn´t move.

Update: Now it´s not working…

Give these settings in the DAC panel a try, UPNP playback is influenced by these three settings
Top one first

Thanks but it does not matter if I have DAC connected (UPNP), or just use MacosX output. Nothing happens. First time in my five years of using AS this happens. Good I still have ROON

Is my conclusion correct that when the library is recreated and scanned that it works?

And that a limited number of albums/files are unplayable?

If you put some albums on the Mac’s drive and add them, does this work? And will this continue to work?

If you add the files from the external drive one more time, does it work? And when will it stop? After rebooting? After disconnecting the external drive?

Are the only the albums end with ö ø and other ‘special’ characters?
Or is it about all albums? Do the albums on the internal drive continue to work?

I have noticed some strange behavior since Sonoma switching back and forth between Roon and Audirvāna now that you mention Roon in the equation. Like something is not releasing the audio playback device or something like that.
@Jacob any thought on that? I can’t exactly pin it down but I did have a fit getting playback going a while back and had to restart everything as I can best recall.
Maybe I had to fiddle with midi settings as well

They are both competing for control of the Core Audio API’s…
