Audirvana Studio and DSL Bandwidth

I know almost nothing about Macs so my advice may be irrelevant. But I think worth a try. Do you have something called ā€œQoSā€ on services, network protocols, router configuration? If yes try to turn it off.

See where you are coming from with this - my router is a BTHub5 - sadly no QoS control. Coulbe be AS has built-in QoS to prioritise and guarantee its streaming services. Pity it seems to hog broadband at all times not just when in use.

Intrigued by this mystery, decided to test for myself. TL:DR, effect is real.

Setup: Gigabit to the home from ISP, Wi-Fi 6 mesh routers. MacBook Pro M1 Max (Wi-Fi 6) running latest Ventura developer beta.

Results: Maximum wi-fi speed on Fast.com with Audirvana Studio open but not performing any apparent tasks, about 350Mbps. Maximum wi-fi speed on Fast.com with Audirvana Studio closed, about 650Mbps.

These results were consistent across many trials, with Audirvana set to play to either UPnP or local DAC.

I have a Qobuz subscription that Audirvana uses, though as mentioned above I wasn’t streaming during the testing.

I apologize for not having any insights to provide, just confirmation.

Hmm. Just tested this, and not much difference here.

Base test with just Chrome running to check speedtest.nl. Download 354 mbit and 35 mbit upload.
With Audirvana Studio running but not playing anything. Pretty much the same numbers. Same goes for playing a local file. Only when streaming a Qobuz FLAC did the download drop to 342 mbit.

This all coincides with my ISP’s subscription of 350 mbit download and 35 upload.

No difference here on my M1 MacBook Pro, running macOS Ventura 13.1.0, wi-fi 5, connected to my ASUS router which connects to my ISP’s Mediabox.

I am glad to hear, that I am not the only one having this problem. Nevertheless I do not understand why Audirvana is so silent on this issue.

Christmas holidays?

The issue is known to Audirvana at least since 27th of November.

It is not that simple. Antoine already told you he could not reproduce the issue on his end. Instead of helping with troubleshooting your system or providing more information you told him he was arrogant.

A lot of other people in this thread do not have the issue either but are still trying to analyze where it could come from. Some others see a bandwidth issue on their end. Those people also are trying to troubleshoot the course.

You seem to insist it is a bug in Audirvana and deny there may be many other potential possibilities too.

Solving this problem is not as easy as baking a cake. There are a lot of different variables at play here.
A bit of a more constructive attitude would be of help.

I have lots of different software running on my Mac. Interestingly enough Audirvana 3.5. doesn’t expose this problem. None of the other software does this. Audirvana Studio is a product, customers are expected to pay for. A product that throttles the bandwidth to one third is dysfunctional in my opinion. But it is always easy to put the customer at fault, isn’t it.
It isn’t the first time, I am left alone with a problem with Audirvana Studio, that is the reason why I am angry. But yeah, it is me not being constructive…

Complaining about being left alone is one way of looking at it. But it is not a constructive way to find a solution for the issue at hand. Nobody is saying the customer is at fault, so I don’t understand where you are getting that from. Just because you get some answers you don’t want to hear?

In this thread you are hardly left alone. Just accept that some answers are not as simple as a recipe for baking a cake and can take time. Maybe some answers can not be found ar all, or maybe some findings are not the same as your anecdotal findings. But customer blaming is not one of them.

Remember that you are not the only paying customer but all the other posters are probably paying customers too. Do they complain about feeling left alone? In a perfect world all software would be perfect. This is not that world.

But I am going too much off topic here.
Have a nice night/day/morning/new year.

Hi @Antoine. I installed Wireshark on my MacBook Pro, where I’m running Audirvana over WiFi. WiFi slowed down with Audirvana open. Interestingly, this was not because Audirvana was sending packets over the network and slowing down the packets for the WiFi speed test. Rather, the total WiFi system throughput diminished when Audirvana was open (though not playing music).

On Windows, where I’m running Audirvana over Ethernet, no slowdown, whether due to Windows or Ethernet I don’t know.

For me the issue only occurs when using wifi. If I connect an ethernet cable via my usb-c dock to my MacBook internet speed is normal.
