Continually skipping tracks part way through

macOS High Sierra, streaming Qobuz (local or from internet). Mac Mini is connected over wi-fi but I do not see similar issues with other playback software.

Are there any logs that can highlight why this happens? It’s not music starting/stopping but randomly skipping playing tracks.

Thanks for the extension of trial period now the Remote is available.

Hello @TheCat ,

Can you send me a copy of the “Debug Info” when you have this issue? You can get it in Audirvana Settings>My account

Note: By clicking on the Debug Info button, Audirvana automatically copies all its content, all you have to do is paste it in response to this message

Hi Damien

Unfortunately I’ve been away and the demo has now expired.

When does the discounted subscription offer for older Audirvana customers expire? Can’t seem to find that in the FAQ/help section.

Happening a lot today, have ***'d out some info. Appreciate local IPs didn’t need it but did anyway.

Local tracks load quickly viewing the waveform ‘progress’ - could this be something related to loading next tracks as I assume Audirvana loads them before the end of the now playing track to ensure gapless works where needed.

Try upsampling off
or x2 if you want to upsample
If upsampling lower buffer memory to 2000mb around

Ok, will do. The odd thing is that things often seem to play virtually until the last 20-30 seconds - I’m assuming Audirvana is creating a local stream that my streamer buffers?

Audirvana Buffer is around 2180MB - too high?

It happened before at around 1200MB, only recently upped it.

Used to happen with 3.5 too.

I don’t see any obvious high CPU loads which is why I went for high upsampling settings, maybe not needed?

Upsampling is more natural for 44 to 88, 176, 352… not natural to compute 44 to 384… go by 2x and up

You need to upsample?

If you stream, might be related to internet connection speed??

That’s a good point, hadn’t thought about 44 > 384 - that’s non-integer upsampling which I wouldn’t like as values may be oddly interpolated rather than true integer multiples.

Do I need upsampling - potentially but have not listened much with different settings yet. Any consensus on what people use and why?

Internet connection is generally fine (yes everyone says that!) - I’d assume though that if the track waveform is complete that a track has downloaded, and either fetching the next track or something else is killing the now playing track.

I don’t upsample
I don’t stream
No stuttering, no hiccups,
no not finished before end
I have enough with UI bugs :grinning:

Drat, thought we’d nailed it with the odd upsampling to 352 for 44.1 kHz 24 bit audio - played several tracks through then the last one skipped (Qobuz purchased stream, which was skipping more played locally from the NAS earlier).

The one thing I’ve just noticed is that despite rescan network folders at start being to the left (off I assume), it has just started doing so - how can you cancel this?).

Screen Shot 2021-08-05 at 19.14.54

How do you change Sync preferences to Off/Manual rather than Auto?

Screen Shot 2021-08-05 at 19.15.50

@Antoine

With the upsampling options could non-integer upsampling be causing errors/glitches when opting for maximum device frequency?

Screen Shot 2021-08-05 at 19.55.37

Can’t actually see 384 in the debug info but even 192 would be odd for non 48/96 kHz files/streams.

@Antoine

I think there are a small number of recurrent problems for some users with Audirvana which if you can eliminate them or demostrate a local cause would massively enhance the user experience and expand your customer base.

Sound quality is important but secondary if tracks skip or stop unexpectedly - I appreciate there are many potential factors which could contribute but reliability is paramount unless the user can see an obvious cause.

Best

TC

Power of 2 is good
44 will go 88, 176, 352…
48 will go 96, 192, 384…
Maximum not good or less
Since 44 could go 384 if your dac stop here and set to max upsampling

Disconnect from internet :grinning:

Hello @TheCat,

Can you try to reproduce your issue with this test version?

https://audirvana.com/delivery/AudirvanaStudio_1.6.1.3.dmg

Will do later today, thanks.

It’s certainly less frequent with x2, x4 compared to device max.

While I know a setting was introduced to prevent new metadata tags being inserted in tracks, is there a way to stop analysis of local storage - I suspect analysing hi-res audio files on my old slow NAS (over wi-fi) is potentially problematic if the whole file is read. Analysing local/NAS discs seems to start automatically at times, I’m unsure if this could be impacting playback.

You are syncing your whole NAS with /Volume/, you should only sync the folders where your music is stored since Audirvana will detect any change made in those folders.

May have confused you, I edited the folder names before posting, replacing names with * (not a wlildcard *).

I’d imagine syncing/audio fingerpritning will be considerably faster with internal or attached storage than over the LAN - it would be nice to be able to disable the audio fingerprinting if it reads the whole audio file, rather than just cataloguing the audio files locations (assuming file metadata can be read without reading the whole file).
