dCS Vivaldi issues with Audirvana Studio

Hi, I have a the Studio version on a trial license. It sounds great and much MUCH better than Roon.

PCM 16/44 24/96 plays great no issues.

DXD, DSD 64, 128 looses the upsampler after about 2 min of playback. The dCS Upsamplers network card appears to reset, taking 30 seconds or so to resume play. Only to occur again.

I should add that I have no playback issues with Roon or using UPnP with dCS Mosaic playback software.

My dealer also has dCS, and he reports the same issue I have.

I have the certified with Audirvana logo. So I know it’s supposed to work. Ideas?

I notice the dCS site states it is partnering with Audirvana but they are not yet listed on the Audirvana website or in the “Plays with Audirvana” section of this forum which lists the manufacturers and the settings for each device.

Perhaps if you post a screenshot of the device settings (settings/audio/gear icon) in the output device box. Also post your debug info (settings/my account/help/debug info button) when playing a DSD file. This will enable a few suggestions from forum users.

Hi, here is settings

Please paste your Debug information here, so folks can help as best possible… You will find this here: Settings → My Account → Help → Debug info

At first glance…. Increase your playback pre-load RAM allocation to 8GB…

(More later if after studying this closer, something-else sticks out…)

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

Hi I have tried that up as high as 32 and then around 16 and where it’s at now. So no change in behavior…Thanks, lmk if you find something !!

The Upsampler is not showing on your UPnP device list… only the AVR-X2600H, Try resetting your network connections…

Also disable the other audio-centric software components, they are competing with Audirvana for Core Audio API’s… disable these or remove them… start from a very basic Core Audio pathway…

You are allocating 1.8GB of playback pre-load RAM

I just moved it up to 8gb…same behavior. I’l try disabling other audio centric components…

When you make changes please post your Debug info…

That is the root issue. Upsampler disappears from UPnP device list while playing. My dealer says something in Audirvana triggering the dCS upsampler’s network card to reset, and that’s when music stops and takes 30 seconds for Audirvana to synch to UPnP device again.

Other UPnP playback software doesn’t have the issue and my dealer can recreate my issue with his dCS and Audirvana. Hmmm

‘Bridge settings:’

  • Set ‘Sample rate limitation’ to 384kHz

  • Try setting the ‘Sample rate switching latency’ to 1.5s to start

  • ‘Mute during sample rate change’: ON

Make sure the Upsampler is selected as the Output Device in Audio MIDI Setup and while there, make sure the sample-rate is set to the maximum of the Upsampler (32bit 384kHz)

It is interesting that Audirvana sees the AVR-X2600H on the UPnP path… Double check how the Upsampler is configured on the Ethernet connection, especially for DSD signals… Audirvana will only see this as a Bridge/Streamer and its sample-rate capabilities…

macOS handles both DoP and raw DSD signals to 22.4MHz (DSD512) via the Ethernet bus… it handles DoP 1.1 signals up to 11.2MHz (DSD256) via USB.

Make sure you have completely restarted your network connections by shutting down the computer, and all network components, the Upsampler and your DAC… Restart the computer, and sequentially restart your router and wait for it to establish a handshake, and subsequent switch(es) waiting for the network handshakes to establish, restart the Upsampler waiting for it to acquire the network and then restart your DAC…

If this behavior persists after doing all of the above, it’s time to contact dCS about this and get their feedback, because they apparently have been communicating with the Audirvana team…

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

I believe your dCS is not yet “Plays with Audirvana” approved. See screenshot below, my Chord device has a “plays with Logo” next to the device name. If you then click on the Gear Icon a dialog box will open with the settings for the device as shown in the screenshot. Would be good to see the settings for your device. I think your manufacturer settings and dCS plays with audirvana settings will be forthcoming (as dCS has announced it) but is not yet implemented. As an example once Audirvana announced that KEF was to be added to the plays with Audirvana programme it took a couple of weeks before they were added. Once dCS devices are added your issue should be resolved by the manufacturer settings which will be applied by default.

In addition to the settings suggested by @Agoldnear I would try with DOP 1.0 (my Chord DAC is supposedly DOP1.1 compliant yet when the plays with Audirvana manufacturer settings were implemented it set DOP to 1.0), especially as your issue is with DSD files. I would also turn on “Large Core Audio I/O Buffer”. (Note the device settings will be different for your UPnP connected device compared to my USB connected Hugo 2, not all setting options will be the same)

This may be relevant…

From the Upsampler User Manual:

Apparently the Upsampler Audio MIDI Setup sample-rate ‘Format’ setting needs to be set to 384kHz 24 bit integer

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

Hi, FYI, seems official with dCS now. I have asked my dealer to check with dCS also…

Hi, I have the Vivaldi clock, so the DAC and Upsampler are locked to the external clock. I think locking to the dacs clock will degrade performance…I like the sound quality I am getting from Audirvana (beats Roon handily)

Is the Upsampler set as the Output Device in Audio MIDI Setup and the format setting matching 24 bit integer 384kHz for the Upsampler?

Also in concert with the other DAC/Bridge settings, I suggest these settings for the system:

From the User Manual regarding using the Master Clock and computer source playback:

Hi, I have had your settings for the computer window in Audirvana. So good there. Ditto the clocking scheme in your diagram from the dCS manual along with those settings.

Where is the Audio Midi Setup? If this is in the sound settings for my Mac, the answer is no b/c I am not using that output, it is set as internal speakers for the most part. My dCS upsampler does show as an option, but via Airplay only. Again Roon and other UPnP players work fine with the settings I have.

The reason I am going down this path is Audirvana sounds way better than Roon and the UPnP player (dCS Mosaic) is iOS only…

Thanks and Thoughts?
