Dsd128

I’m having difficulty with DSD128.

My setup:
Mac Studio M2 Ultra
Mac OS X Sonoma 14.2.1
Audirvana Origin 2.5.11

Streamer: Chord 2Yu/2Go
DAC: Classe Delta PRE (USB connection from Chord)

Mac Studio and Chord are both connected via Ethernet

When I play DSD128 files (DoP) there are sound dropouts (music is choppy). DSD64 and PCM 192/24 play flawlessly.

The same DSD128 file played via Roon plays flawlessly, which suggests Chord and Delta PRE DAC are not the issue (they can handle the DSD128 via Roon).

Audirvana UPnP with Chord 2Yu/2Go doesn’t seem to handle DSD128.

Any suggestions?

Before the debug info, yes paste it here, but first update your macOS to last version… 14.4, might… resolve issues :grinning:

Upgrading to Mac OS 14.4 did not make a difference.
DSD128 still choppy with Audirvana (same file plays flawlessly with Roon)

I notice from the plays with Audirvana settings that have been posted by Antoine the 2GO is listed as not capable of DSD (DOP) playback in UPnP mode the DSD playback setting is “none” convert to PCM. It appears from this it is only capable of DSD over DOP 1.0 with a USB connection.

This may be a typo but worth a clarification with @Antoine. See below text from the plays with Audirvana settings.

FROM Plays With Audirvana Settings For the 2GO

As regards Roon, Roon uses its in-house transmission protocol RAAT, not UPnP, this is why it probably works, although I have noticed the default option in Roon when playing DSD files over RAAT to KEF’s is to also convert to PCM, Audirvana plays DSD happily with UPnP to the KEF’s using DOP.

One would assume the 2GO could be fixed by a firmware update by Chord (I assume you have installed the latest firmware updates) but based on the testing undertaken for “Plays with Audirvana” the recommendation at this time is to convert to PCM when playing over UPnP with Audirvana (unless of course the DSD playback setting of “none” is a typo).

Based on the “Plays with Audirvana” settings details, as per @Djm1960 and his experience with Chord devices… you are are probably best served by converting all DSD files to PCM in Audirvana, which will decimate these to the highest logical PCM sample-rate of the DAC, in your case with 2GO and UPnP (This would be 705.6kHz) and let 2GO do its PCM-centric onboard processing for best output sound-quality…

As Djm1960 alludes, it appears 2GO supports DSD via DoP (Per Chapter 16, Technical Specifications of the User Manual V1.6)

Wow… no mention about the memory buffer here!!!
Max. memory for audio buffers: 62464MB out of 64gb…

You too have that bad chip that can’t play real DSD like mine…

Police thread please!!

You just did exactly that… quote other user with your personal thinking

You are right about the large playback pre-load memory allocation… something around 4-6GB would make sense… I personally don’t see where allocating more pre-load memory is rational… I didn’t go there just yet, because the the issue is with DSD playback via UPnP where the DAC supports DSD via DoP.

Apparently, you didn’t do your homework on the 2GO… or Chord DACs in general.

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

Hi @sanjay1297,

If your DAC has a volume control, you may need to ensure it is set at 100% during DSD playback to prevent its USB interface from damaging the DSD signal.

Is the “Plays with Audirvana” setting for the Chord 2Go, regarding DSD transmission via UPnP (DSD Over PCM setting : None ) valid or not?

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes:

@Agoldnear, I was talking about this :point_up_2:

I think it is correct. Both the portable streaming add-ons, the Poly and the 2Go for the Mojo and Hugo2 DAC’s respectively are listed as not DSD over DoP compatible when using UPnP over wireless or Ethernet with Audirvana.

In the OP’s case he is using the 2Go streaming/media server module attached to the Chord 2Yu which provides digital connections to an external DAC/Mscaler.

The USB ports on all Chord devices are compatible with DSD over DoP on a Mac.

Ahh… Okay… :sunglasses: :+1: However, too much gain will produce digital clipping distortion rather than choppy audio… Maybe this is what is being described as choppy audio?

Update:
Chord2Go has latest firmware 1.6.1

I disconnected 2Yu and connected 2Go to Hugo2 (as headphone Amp)

Audirvana plays DSD128 flawlessly.

Connected 2Go to 2Yu again (with USB to PRE) and once again there are audio dropouts (clipping).

So, 2Go seems to function differently with 2Yu via USB to PRE than it does with Hugo2 and headphones.

In the GoFigure App, DSD / Bit Perfect is ON.

I would suggest you describe your issue to Chord Electronics support. I suspect that they are aware of this issue which is why the “plays with Audirvana” settings for the 2Go are listed as convert DSD to PCM.

Maybe they can help, or at least detail why the issue occurs with the 2Yu. Clearly not an issue with the 2Go connected to a Hugo2 (great fan of the Hugo2, transportable music bliss for couch, bed, floor, poolside… love it!)

Thank you. I will try that.

It’s unfortunate because Roon → 2Go-2Yu → USB → Delta PRE works fine with DSD 128 from the same Mac Studio (Audirvana) source file.

Yes, I understand UPnP is different than Roon protocol (RAAT).

Hopefully you will get an answer that they are working on a solution over UPnP. Best of luck.

What’s interesting about this aspect (DSD / Bit-Perfect setting) is that the setup plays flawlessly with DSD64. The issue of clipping occurs with DSD 128.
