Integer mode not working on MacOS Tahoe (no sound during playback)

We have been able to reproduce the issue. As we speak, there have been some changes in the core audio of the latest macOS version, given the problem encountered by third-party apps like ours.

In the case of the Meridian, and probably a lot of the devices having the issue (like the SMSL), we can see this:

In Tahoe:

This indicates changes made by Apple in the driver, and in such a manner, we will try our best to do a fix for it.

Perhaps this information helps.

Since I installed Tahoe, I experience a heavily (not just slightly) distorted sound when playing back an audio file with Audirvana Origin 2.6.2 (20602) on a Mac Mini with an Apple M2 chip and Integer mode On. When I switch Integer Mode toOff, it plays again.

With good old Audirvana 3.5.50 (I still use it for I love the way I can easily modify tags simultaneously for many files) same file is played well with 'Optimize system for playback On

Same here with me. Latest Audirvana studio (please find system/playback data below) won’t playback any DSD files with ā€œInteger mode = Onā€ anymore on MacOS 26 Tahoe (@ThijsA : Thanks for the tip above! - did not get this to work before…)

I’m using a Mac Mini M2 with only Audirvana Origin 2.6.2 and macOS Tahoe, no other programs.
I use FLAC and DSD files and haven’t noticed any problems.
I upsample all my FLAC files to DXD.

Havn’t used Origin for a few weeks. Since then, installed Tahoe but Origin sees nothing to play. Files are in a folder on Desktop. Have tried deleting app and re-installing. Also Shut Down. Help! Audirvava Origin is a brick.

Interesting quote from forum on the Tahoe beta in relation to beta 8. If correct may explain why my Chord Dacs and KEF LS50’s WII work as they are 32 bit capable (The KEFS only when networked) Same issue with integer mode reported on J River forum……

Wondering why Audirvana 3.5 might still work on Tahoe through the same DAC, but not Studio. As another poster reported, the old Audirvana works with full system optimisation and in integer mode. How could this be when both versions interact with the same CoreAudio code?

Good point but the issue is impacting users of J River also with integer mode not working so has to be a core audio/DAC issue as it is not specific to AS/AO alone. Audirvana keep their IP well guarded so only they could be able to understand the differing experience with 3.5 and AS/AO. I’m sure they will enlighten us of the root cause soon enough………

Still waiting to hear from Audirvana, especially as I cannot stream Presto hi-res through Audirvana 3.5.x. If you’re monitoring, please fix!

The thing i am thinking is why the old version still has better feature still working from Origin or Studio? even the remote is better on old version, and it was not even good then :slight_smile:

Audirvana 3.5 was an absolutely superb piece of software, designed by a Mac lover, who’s moved on to allegedly greener pastures.

For those that do not have the issue on the 3.5, can you please post your debug info ?

BTW, also HQPlayer had to fix the Tahoe coreaudio issue.

I have this issue as well. Had me panicking for a moment.

I use a headless Mac mini and had to go and dig out keyboards/cables etc. because the update turned FileVault back on so no more automatic login.

Just wanted to say that I’m having the same issue running Audirvana Origin 2.6.2 on a 2022 Mac Studio (M1 Max chip) after upgrading to Tahoe 26.0. With Integer Mode on, playback is distorted. With Integer Mode off, playback is normal. Thank you for working on this.

Here’s the detailed update of my experiments:

I found out that, at least in my environment (mac Studio M1 Max to MC-3+USB to Brooklyn DAC+), Audirvana Origin plays smooth even with ā€œExclusive Accessā€ and ā€œInteger Modeā€ both on, ONLY WHEN the music is 16/44.1 format.
No other formats (24/44.1, 24/48, or any other formats above it) can be played with Audirvana Origin with Integer Mode ON (more precisely, the UI shows it is played fine, but no sound from the DDC/DAC).

Even if I manually align the ā€œInput Formatā€ in Audio MIDI Setup for the DDC, the playback is completely muted. But only with the 16/44.1 files can be played fine.

As for the Origin’s ā€œMusic Integrated Modeā€, it is completely unusable: when both ā€œExclusive Accessā€ and ā€œInteger Modeā€ on, both the Music app and Audirvana Origin app becomes ā€œNot Respondingā€ (on Activity Monitor); when ā€œInteger Modeā€ off, it plays somehow, but never-ending quick starts/stops automatically happen, thus totally unlistenable.

Finally with a good ol’ Audirvana 3.5, it plays fine, local ALAC files and Qobuz streaming – even with Integer Mode on, and various formats from 16/44.1 to 24/192. Its ā€œMusic Integrated Modeā€ is the only exception, becoming ā€œNot Respondingā€ again.
