i’m using Audirvana since 2013. As I want to dual boot my old mac mini with Ubuntu and install the linux variant of Audirvana it seems i need to convert/ upgrade my licence. When i log in into My Audirvana I see:
Audirvāna 3.5 MacOS Licence - Legacy: not sold anymore
Bought 2018-01-04
Order number: xxxxxxxx (my real 8-digit order number)
followed by my license key
I see nowhere a upgrade or convert button. As i want to test first, i dont like to Clear Installations as it will most likely kill my link with Mac OS of my Mac Mini.
You have an offer to “upgrade” to Audirvāna Studio or Audirvāna Origin. I see you tried Audirvāna Studio back in 2023, and you can still try Audirvāna Origin until November 24th.
I see, I assumed I had ‘origin’ as I am a paid user since the start of Audirvana. But seems my product isnt called Origin then.
On the installation side: i succeeded on installing Linux (Ubunta), installing Audirvana Origin (as trial) and connected my Remote on Iphone. However, i cannot see how to enable Qobuz? I have a subscription there on the same computer (but then the Mac OS installation) Qobuz is running all fine. How do get Qobuz to work on the remote now I’m connected to the Linux variant?
Hm. So i when i move to Linux i automatically need to get Studio to have Qobuz running. Clear. Didn’t see that coming but alas. As I already used the Studio trial (before I switched to Linux) I cannot test Studio on Linux now. Is it possible you grant me a trial for Studio (again) in order to test? After being successful i can then get the subscription.
I just did a real install of Ubuntu to my 2010 Mac Mini after an initial test with Audirvana Studio. Moved it to my main room, plugged everything in, started Audirvana again, connect the app and everything plays along nicely on my hifi system. Lovely. Ubuntu looks really stable, way better than my Mac OS which i installed via OpenCore Patcher to bypass my old hardware. Awesome you guys decided for Linux!
Somethings i need to sort out:
i used to operate the mac mini via an imac by screensharing. That stopped working.
when i restart id like to auto start Audirvana. I think thats possible via a certain file but need to sort it out. Linux noob here.
if my wife her Samsung phone can also operate it via the remote app.
First trouble arised: after 30 mins the music stopped. I had to relogin onto Ubunti. I supect due to the fact ive set it ti suspend when 30 mins idle. Seems Audirvana is seen as idle. After that the remote didnt want to start the music and gave an error. Had to restart the computer and reinstall app to get it working again. Adjusted the powersettings settings of Ubuntu to see if problem goes away.
However, i do want the computer to auto sleep when im not using it. Advice is welcome.
The music played without any problems the entire last night after adjusting the power settings to never suspend when idle.
Also two remotes connected now and they interact without trouble.
Remotely connecting from a Mac OS device works using ThinCast, a free application that uses RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol). Regular screensharing of Mac OS seems to use VNC which isn’t working. Downside of ThinCast is that as soon as Ubuntu goes into a mode where I need to enter a password the connection fails automatically. This means i still need to connect a screen and keyboard to my Mac Mini to enter password and then remote desktop works again. But the whole point of the remote desktop is of course to keep the Mac Mini from being touched physically. So need to find a solution.
And now on to connecting my NAS (Synology) which has a folder called ‘Muziek’. On Ubuntu I connected to my NAS via ‘Other locations’ by my regular user which was also used on the Mac Mini before. I can browse through the folder on my NAS perfectly. However, on the Audirvana remote app, the folders on the NAS do not appear at all when i click ‘Add folders’ in the Local menu. Any advice?
I don’t understand what you are doing. If you use the folder ‘Music’ in the root (in Dutch ‘muziek’), the Audirvana Core Player on Synology should see that folder without problems, unless you configured your Synology in a non-standard way.
If you use the Mac Mini with Ubuntu, configuring the remote folder on the NAS using a samba connection on the Ubuntu side and a SMB share on the Synology side, the Audivana app on the Mac Mini running Ubuntu should see that mounted folder on the NAS on the link you configured in Ubuntu for the remote folder.
All of these scenario’s work without a problem on every Linux install I tried and using a Synology NAS.
I dont have Audirvana on my Synology. Only installed it on the Mac Mini running on Ubuntu. Mac OS Audirvana connected to the NAS music folder just fine. Although after installing Ubuntu, I can still browse through the NAS folders on the MacMini without issues. Its just the remote that doesnt see the NAS folders, so i cant add/sync them to Audirvana anymore.
That’s because Audirvana is running under the user ‘audirvana’ if you don’t specify a specific user with the SetAsService shell script.
You either have to grant the audirvana user read rights on the mounted folder representing the NAS drive, or you need to run Audirvana under a user that has access rights to that folder.
I don’t use network shares, but maybe this will help you. I added Audirvana in Startup and set in Disks app manual management / mount at startup for all my usb disks (Linux Mint). Maybe you can do something similar with the network share. 99% you will find a solution on Google or AskUbuntu.
Thanks. Learned something new. Mounted network drives only in Windows long time ago. I know is different but I thought is similar using the visual interface / system apps.
I open the shell script and replaced ‘audirvana’ in AUDIRVANA_USER=audirvana to my NAS username and saved it. I see no difference. But most likely i need to run the script somewhere to have any effect. But where? Also, is there documentation on this on the Audirvana website that i missed. I feel pretty stupid here.
