I’m finally ready to install onto my dedicated Mac Mini running a clean install of OSx 10.13.6 (High Sierra).
Before I do so, can someone please confirm if Direct Mode is working properly or do I have to run the work around / hack mentioned in this thread(linked below)?

yes it is working even now on Catalina 10.15.2
yes you have to use the hack for it. take your time

I wonder if the hack will cause problems when it is finally resolved in a release.

It will never be resolved, Apple just close that door long time ago for developers. But we have a key 
Don’t Really like the word hack, sounded like s big illegal thing…
The trick is just to put in the same place a little extension that is already there always, but the el capitan one was the last with different privileges by Apple that allow programmers like Damien to make their software deeper in Apple system for better sound.
Since you already start with the last system update of that OS version, you will not have to do it every new version update.
