There is of course the risk if you are going to do everything your users want. Interests become conflicts and no one is satisfied.
That would be a big issue and make it useless completely. Thatās the main usage scenario.
Sure, if they didnāt do it, we would have people here complaining how they donāt listen to the customers.
Soon Audirvana will look more and more like Roon, but it will be also similarly priced.
Iām very demanding on sound quality, and I am just in the beginning of experimenting.
Iām trying Minimserver, and I get a drop in sound quality also with the players of my PC when they read tracks from the server.
Iām trying for the streamer also another player that is called Moode. It has an excellent sound too.
As all these players sound better than Audirvana and JRiver, I may buy a 10 GB drive, copy to it my music, and connect it to the streamer.
Just feed it directly from a network share using SMB/CIFS or NFS. Havenāt noticed any sound degradation that way.
Whatās that?
Iām a newbie to network playbackā¦
Those are file sharing protocols. SMB/CIFS is Windows world one and NFS is used in the UNIX world.
Just create a share somewhere and point Volumio to access the share directly.
Iāll PM you to ask you how to do that.
I understood what you were saying when you said it. I just didnāt agree with some of your points, and more specifically, your generalization that āeveryoneā shares your point of view. I do think you make good points, which is why I posed the different licensing models.
BTW - Thanks to everyone who participated regarding the licensing question I posted! ![]()
Played with Volumio for a while this morning.
In terms of prices it is in the direction as mentioned here. (Not that itās necessarily the right solution)
The basic functionality is free (a donation can be made.)
Then there is an extra step for basic streaming services. Itās a bit cheaper than Audirvana.
And the full in streaming experience is equivalent to Audirvana. In addition, some extra things like playing and ripping CDs and personal item sync.
No idea whatās good or bad. Time will tell.
There are also plugins that you can install to have radios and podcastsā¦
What I now got stuck on is that my local music is on an Apple AirPort Extreme shared folder. I canāt get this mounted. If I seriously consider this, Iāll take a closer look or use another NAS.
It has also a free plugin that gives access to 1.500 live shows of Phish.
With this, Phish fans have enough music to listen to for years.
My gripe is Audirvana made a patch to all A+ to work on new Mac chips then rescinded it! As i said Iām not much of an audiophile but thereās always hope!
So I ripped most of my cds as FLAC and was using A+ as a player as Mac still doesnāt support FLAC in iTunes or what ever they call it now.
I liked A+ enough I was willing to spend another $75 to get a second license so both my Macs could have their own. So Iām not being cheap; Iām just not going to sign up for a subscription. But thatās not gonna happen now.
Took 30 minutes to convert my FLACs to ALAC via dBPoweramp (which seamlessly loaded on new Mac with years old license!) and I downloaded Vox if I prefer to use the FLACs.
So I have no use for Audirvana and can state they lost a customer. Too bad I have a big mouth online too! I share my experiences in the music forums. Iād been an Audirvana fan for years. That just changedā¦
Ya know what!
Iād gladly PAY for the 3.5xxxx patch to make A+ work on new Mac chip! As I said earlier I came to the site to BUY another copy of A+ for my new computer. I donāt expect something for nothing! I understand the the developers need to make $$$ and should be rewarded for their efforts.
I donāt like A Studio one bit. Way too bulky with a poor interface. So I have no desire to work through the short comings of the design for the simple uses I require.
Audirvana HAS to realize thereās a LOT of us wanna be audiophiles who donāt mind spending $100 to get more out of $4000 systems; to sound as good as possible BUT canāt/wonāt use the advanced options.
Iām in an RV so streaming off my iPhone gives me 90% of what I can get from Audirvana. BUT bIād gladly pay to have the A+ or some other ālightā version to give me more freedom on file choices from laptop.
Think it through a bit more Audirvana! Audirvana was one of those decisions I made years ago was the perfect music app and I had not looked at another in years. I just spent an hour reading up on optionsā¦Itās like the wifey getting all fat and hard to deal with and not expecting me to look at the new sweeties on the street!
One more thing!
One day Apple is going to pull their heads out of their butts and use their $Billion war chest to design a proper music player that plays all formats. Itāll be free too!
The day that happens is the day Audirvana goes out of business.
Meanwhile Iāll just rip to ALAC which by all indications give me the same sound quality as FLAC.
Weāre all waiting for that day. Until that day comes, Audirvana it is.
My gripe is Audirvana made a patch to all A+ to work on new Mac chips then rescinded it!
When did it happen?
I missed thatā¦
and I downloaded Vox if I prefer to use the FLACs.
For your Flac files, download Pine Player from the Mac Store and Foobar 2000 for Mac. Both are free and have a better sound than Vox.
