Player for linux?

Hey,

I installed audirvana on my homeserver ; the headless server part runs fine but I can’t access it through any GUI on my linux machines ?

I looked around and I couldn’t find a decisive answer but “a remote app exist for smartphones/tablet” and “a version exist for Mac/Windows*” : but it is never said explicitely there was no client app for Linux anywhere.

Could you kindly confirm so I don’t look for something that doesn’t exist ?

Thanks !

hi @otyugh ,

As stated on our website:

The app is so-called ‘headless’, meaning it has no interface of its own. Apart from installation, it can be controlled entirely from the free Audirvāna Remote mobile app for Android and iOS.

You can actually install the Remote on a Mac using an Apple Silicon chip, but we do not plan to do a GUI version of Audirvāna on Linux.

Hey,

I assumed the same but wanted confirmation. Also as a note, why did you remove the link to “Audirvana desktop” ? Is it obsolete or something ? Please say things plainly : I can’t but assume if I’m not told in words. :frowning:

Sorry, forgot to mention.

The link you are referring to is not from Audirvāna, as the desktop version for Linux does not exist.

Why is it not available for everyone ?

Is a linux version planned ?

Sorry, I corrected my statement as it was not precise enough. The Linux version of Studio does not have a desktop version, it’s the only thing that matter.

Version for Linux/NAS is headless, completely and exclusively controlled by remote from phone/tablet. There has never been a Linux desktop version.

There are desktop versions for Mac and Windows, which can be controlled either from the desktop or from the same remote app used for the Linux/NAS version.

What version of android is supported ? Couldn’t find the info either.

I have only ever used iOS and iPadOS, so I don’t know. Maybe it’s in the FAQs, or if not, perhaps another user, Antoine, or a web search will provide an answer.

Sorry I couldn’t be of further assistance.

Android 5.0 or higher.

You have it here:

As with all Android apps, you have this information on the app page in the about section:

It’s a shame, because given what’s going on at the moment, mainstream operating systems (for both computers and smartphones) are causing increasing concern about their use…

@lwojtulewicz When will Linux have a share of the computer market equal to or greater than Apple’s? Maybe we can do it. Or if there is a multiplatform codebase that can be used on all OS, without redoing the whole code, it could be considered, but I can tell you our focus is not on this.

I’m not really missing it myself, but apparently there are people wishing this.

Maybe you could ask some devs within the Linux community to pick up on the challenge? Don’t know if it’s desirable for Audirvāna as a company to share the needed details though…

Anyway, just a thought…

It could be an option, but the main point I have about it is time. As people of the Linux community would put a lot of effort into it, we would need to put a lot of time into reviewing what they have done, and in the end, it’s time dedication, which we desperately need for other tasks at Audirvāna.

Totally understandable.

I wonder, given the sorts of users drawn to Linux in general and Linux audio players in particular, if something running as a service that doesn’t use compute cycles for a GUI isn’t more attractive.

I don’t see it as being any less secure, given that people are going to be using their phones and the OSs that go with those phones anyway.

Not arguing with the desire for a Linux desktop version, just thinking aloud.

Ok - I understand, but is there a script available (something like Roon-on-wine for Roon) that runs Audirvana Studio 3 in Linux Wine?

I think the defining criteria will be in the ubiquity of a standardized Linux system/platform, which from my perspective is far from standardized… Also, until there is some quantifiable comparative analysis in regard to performance advantage and security, there does not appear to be enough tangible evidence in these regards, to invest development time and resources in this context, as Antoine has stated.

Have you tried downloading and installation of the Windows version already in Wine? Maybe it just works already…
