Track stops after 50 seconds while streaming

Hello, when I stream the track ‘This house is empty now’ from Elvis Costello (local album) to my Naim uniti Atom Headphone Edition, the track stops at exactly 50 seconds and AS switches to the next track. This doesn’t happen when I stream this track from the album on Qobuz. There are more tracks from my local hard drive that show this behavior in AS. All tracks are in Apple lossless format (16/44.1 kHz stereo). I use no upsampling or plugins. What is going on? When I listen to these tracks directly on the computer (MacOS 12.0.1) these issues do not occur.

Try to convert this track to FLAC and see if you have the same issue.

Converting to FLAC indeed solves the problem!
Apple lossless files (m4a) are supported by AS, right? Or should I convert my entire library (±400 albums) to FLAC?

Try to reduce the pre-load cache to 4000MB. Probably that’s not what causes this issue, but you’re pre-load cache is way too large.

Where did you source those files? Is it a RIP you did yourself from a CD?

Yes, I ripped them from CD using iTunes, years ago
BTW, it have reduced the preload cache to ±4000MB. Thanks for the suggestion. That, indeed, does not solve the issue.

Try to concert to FLAC and back to ALAC to see if this fixes the files.

There were some issues with the ALAC implementation with few hardware manufacturers that used the same library. This was years ago, so this has been hopefully fixed in the meantime. But maybe not.

You can try to toggle the “sand as RAW PCM” switch.

What you can do in the meantime, is to play to a direct connected DAC (USB or built-in audio). If that works, you’ll know that something is up with the Atom.

The track plays fine when I’m using the build-in audio of the iMac or when I use headphones connected to an Audioquest Dragonfly USB DAC. Streaming the track to the Naim unit leads to the premature termination of the song. Not sure if something is wrong with the Atom though. Many other m4a files from my music collection stream fine to it and streaming ‘this house is empty now’ via Roon to the Atom also works fine. Could it be related to the UPnP protocol that AS uses? Or maybe something wrong with the track itself?

Could be, but it‘s unusual that it breaks at the exact same spot. Try to toggle the RAW PCM switch and let Audirvāna extract the file.

Toggling the RAW PCM switch on and off, in the settings of the output device, doesn’t make a difference. In both scenarios the problem remains.
Could there be something wrong with the format of the track itself? Remember, if the track is converted to FLAC it streams correctly to the Atom.

Could be. You can try to play the ALAC file directly on the Atom to check. Mount the share or put it on external storage.
