Tracks loads but don't stuck at 0:00

I’ve shifted over to a Mac Mini with 16gb of RAM running Catalina. Running this with a Topping E30 DAC with everything configured correctly.

The problem is: when I start up Audirvana, the first few tracks load fine and starts playing. After changing a few tracks, the software breaks and is not able to get past the 0:00 mark of all following tracks. I’ve tried everything - changing pre-load memory, upsampling, volume adjustments and OS update. Nothing is working. This is extremely frustrating. I’m still within my trial period and am having second thoughts of actually paying for Audirvana when it barely worked on my PC and Mac. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Please.

Here’s my debug info:

Hello @mrj0920,

do you have this issue with Tidal track or with local tracks?

Hi Damien, I have the issues with both - Tidal and local - PCM and DSD tracks alike.

Any advice on how to go about fixing this?

Reduce the pre-load cache to 4000MB.

Already tried that. Made no difference whatsoever.

Try to disable integer mode.

Already tried that too. Like I mentioned in the OP, I’ve tried everything - enabling and disabling, playing with the sliders and etc. The issue persisted for all possible troubleshooting iterations.

It seems like I’m not the only one with a myriad of problems with Audirvana. For this particular issue, I’ve done my research on this forum and there has been no concrete solutions to this problem, amongst many others. The inception of this paid software was used on Macs so I’d assumed it would run smoother than PCs, to say the least.

Moreover, I understand the “try this, try that” method of solving a problem. But I think the real question from the makers of this software should be “why does it happen?”

That’s impossible to answer. It never happened to me for example. Could well be DAC dependent. Not even the model, might be your specific device.

Can you try with a different DAC. Do you use the system optimizer? If yes disable it.

Do you use a NAS? Can you test with files on a local drive?

This issue happens sometimes with external drives.

Confirming that this issue persists even when using the built-in output of the Mac Mini. It’s clearly an Audirvana issue.

It could well be, but the question is why. I’m using it on the Mac and used in both Catalina and BigSur and never had this issue. I’m also using the NAS as storage for the music library files.

If you have the system optimiser enabled, disable it. The issue you’re having is quite peculiar. The users having similar issues experience it on every track, it’s curious that you experience this after few tracks.

Are you using a NAS for storing files?

Nope, I’m using Tidal only actually.

I’ve had the system optimizer disabled from the get go.

Have you tried with local files, just to confirm it’s a Tidal issue.

I did, and it happens with local files too.

Do you have another DAC to try with?

Or the built-in output.

Try just to delete your Audirvana preferences to see…

Apple hide the Home Folder in User Library at some time depending on OS System…
When you have clicked your Home Folder, and cannot see the Library Folder in there,
just do a ‘‘cmd J’’ to show the folder settings preferences and see at the bottom…
click Show Library Folder and then you’ll have access to the rest forever.

Quit Audirvana:

Go to User… Home Folder… Library… Preferences…
copy somewhere to put them back if new prefs still not play…

Copy then trash com.audirvana.Audirvana-Plus.plist and com.audirvana.Audirvana.plist in that folder.

Restart Mac. Restart Audirvana.

Also…

You can try zapping the PRAM of the Mac Mini, it reset some Audio settings…

You can reset or “zap” the PRAM on a Mac by pressing and holding the Command, Option, P, and R keys right as you turn the computer on (when your hear the Bong)…
Yes, there are four keys you need to hold down at the same time. Once your hear the startup chime a second time, the PRAM has been reset and you can release the keys.

Reopen Audirvana and see.

Yes, I mentioned earlier that the problem persists even with the built-in output.

Hmm, could it be that something else is accessing the files while you play in Audirvana? Apple Music/iTunes or something similar.
