What set up DOES NOT work for you with Audirvana Studio

Have you tested Diretta on your Windows machine if it connects and work properly with AS? I know there’s someone over at Audiophile Style who claims it runs perfectly well?

If Diretta is a safe and reliable protocol, that would be THE solution, particularly for AS users!

I did not perform this test, because I subscribed to Studio for one month to test it, and I installed Diretta a few days after my subscription to Studio ended.
But I don’t see why it won’t work, because it works with all the players of the PC.

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes: … As I have been pointing-out regarding transmission system gremlins that affect network connections for audio distribution, we see that Diretta looks to address noise that affect reliable transmission and sound-quality…

Quoted from the Diretta site:

"Many factors affect the sound quality of audio players. Power-supply noises generated by digital blocks on circuits significantly affect the sound quality. Usually, capacitors and inductors are placed at power sources to reduce the noises.
In this way, we can configure low-pass filters and reduce spike-like digital-specific noises.
However, as you can see from the fact that low-pass filters are used, any low-frequency fluctuation passes through.
It isn’ t necessary to filter it out because it isn’ t a noise, and you can’ t see it even if you observe it by focusing on voltage.
But, if you observe it by focusing on electrical current, you can detect noises that affect the audio frequency band of a constant cycle.
It is absolutely difficult to electrically eliminate the noises.

We thought that we might be able to significantly improve sound quality by controlling these noises. However, it is very difficult and unrealistic to adopt constant current configuration, such as class-A amp, for all CPUs, etc. If we can solve this problem in a software-based approa
ch, we can expect that implementation will be realized.
There is only one way to achieve this goal: averaging of processing and reduction of fluctuations in power consumption. But, existing protocols couldn’ t realize it.

By means of Diretta, we would like to propose an answer to this problem. Please suppose that a player with an analog part is the Target and that a server with storage, etc., is the Host.
The Target and the Host are designed based on separate concepts.
With regard to the Target, processing is minimized and simplified to enable averaging. The Target is configured by means of simple processing, like hardware processing by FPGA.

The Host operates in synchronization with the Target to average processing by the Target. Packets are transmitted as often as possible at constant short intervals in order to average processing. The transmission is controlled by forecasting Target buffers.
In this way, fluctuations in power consumption of a player as the Target is averaged as much as possible.

We don’ t say that this method is definitely better than other transmission systems. But, we would like to propose one different approach.
It is similar to USB synchronization, but the Target doesnt change speed because the Host synchronizes. There is no buffer/flow control like USB ansynchronization. Completely insulated connection can be used and fibers and other cables can be adopted because it is Ethernet. No complicated processing like UPnP file range requests is required. No complicated processing to synchronize many devices like AES67 is required, either.
We are committed to evolving Diretta with the highest priority on sound quality and minimizing influence over analog blocks."

Just a brief update.
Have just purchased an Auralic Aries streamer, which is connected to my Cyrus DAC via co-axial.
Naturally, the native Lightning DS app works like a dream, as does ROON!
Unfortunately but perhaps not surprisingly Studio doesn’t even see this new device, nevermind play to it.

To avoid such misadventures, it might be useful to create on this site a list of network players who do not work well with Studio. And to create another list of network players who are known to work well with Studio.
It could help Studio subscribers to choose what streamer to buy, and to continue to enjoy their subscription.

Congratulations Mr enjoy it!

Perhaps this not a misadventure but an advantage at this point in time

How it could be an advantage?
He continues to pay subscription without being able to stream his music.

Bit of shame to abandon a couple of months on subscription but if it’s not workable for your requirements what’s the point wasting time trying to figure out a work around. YMMV but to me it’s like keeping a broken screwdriver in my toolbox, nope not gonna happen

Hang in there and enjoy studio, perhaps the next update will be a tremendous step forward. Best luck with it

PS, I’m very certain that @Ironz is streaming his music just fine now.

Since Audirvana does not want to sell license, maybe they should offer another billing option.
They can keep the yearly and monthly subscription for those who want it. And also sell playback hours to those who may be interested in such option.

Buying playback hours has an advantage for the customer, because if he does not use the player, he keeps his hours credit, and he will use them when Damien will fix the bugs.
So he loses nothing, unlike subscription, for which the customer pays even if the player does not work.

I have absolutely no problem with how Damien and the Audirvāna team have decided to run the billing system. It would perhaps have been nice to suspend your subscription and come back a see if updates have been sorted out properly. That being said Damien has always been more than fair and tried to make things good as far as I know. We previous + and 3.5 users were given a nice discount for first year so no complaints from me as far as that goes. I’ve decided as evidently @Ironz has to go another direction, this is not a possibility for everybody I realize so if studio does what you need it to do it’s a great bargain actually. But as always YMMV

It’s a similar to playback hours. Buying subscription time and keeping it, if you don’t use the player, is also a good option, either if the player stops working or for any other reason.

:notes: :eye: :headphones: :eye: :notes: @OffRode @Ironz … There is no substitute for a well-designed, vertically-integrated hardware/software platform… However, in the networked distributed-audio scenario, this vertical-integration does not obviate Ethernet transmission-line or wireless transmission gremlins… The Auralic folks have a detailed prospectus on these potentials, and how to mitigate these gremlins, linked on the site…

I believe the new Apple silicon has the muscle to handle the heavy lifting of streaming high-resolution audio to multiple end-points… The reliability and the sound-quality of the network performance will boil down to the engineering adroitness of those employing networking technology in their personal living/listening environments, irrespective of the playback software/audio-engine, being employed…

That I am, my friend.
It’s just so nice to play anything whether local or streamed, without fear of lock-ups or indeed whether Qobuz will actually work.

Yep, that’s what I’ve done :+1:
Great minds, eh?
I will certainly keep on updating when updates are available, but as my Auralic isn’t even SEEN by Studio I don’t hold out too much hope at the present, although my subscription does run until July.
Luckily Lightning DS (and ROON) is proving to be a more than able substitute at the moment.

I discovered that it can already function with the Mac.
To stream from a Mac (or a phone or a tablet), it is necessary to run two GentooPlayer/Diretta devices. The first is a Host. And the second is the Target.
The sound is very good. Better than streaming directly from Windows. It’s worth using this setup, even with Windows, because the sound is improved further.

And it should stream well with Studio.

Auralic Aroes G1 or G2? I envy you!

I am also thinking along these lines of getting a commercially sound product. I am fed up with formatting micro SD cards, playing around with Raspberrys, etc. Too much fiddling around.

A few years ago, when the G1 was released, I was about to order one. But the local retailer had problems of getting them. Nevertheless, I do follow Auralic. I like them.

Enjoy your new kit!

As good as Diretta’s intentions are, it proved to be totally unsuitable in my system. I had it running under GentooPlayer. The problem was that my Devialet goes to power save after 30 mins when there is no audio signal. That just overthrew Diretta/GentooPlayer so that I had to do lengthy resettings of the server and the endpoint. Very annoying!

This doesn’t happen with sound software solutions as Roon, for example. I am a bit disillusioned of all those ā€˜home-brew’ software solutions. Too unreliable!

I am about to find a sound commercial solution like @Ironz’s with, say Auralic. To me it looks the way to go.

Hi @Sailor

I opted for the G1. I did audition the G2.1 but in all honesty whilst it did sound better, it wasn’t Ā£2500 better in my opinion. I can use the money saved to go towards a new Cyrus Pre-XP DAC
I must also say that the proprietary Lightning DS software is fantastic and completely rock-solid.

Have a look also at the DACs of Holo Audio.

Agree absolutely. The Auralics per se are expensive, but no way I would go for a G2.1, far too much money to be spent. And yes, I heard good things about the Lighning app!

Thanks for the update!
