Exciting News: Public Beta Launch for Audirvāna Studio App!

Yeah but I’m not talking about functionality per se. I’m talking about user experience in relation to audirvana as it is now.

If functionality improves user experience then implement it, if it doesn’t then don’t. Like mutiroom for example. In roon it’s base… I don’t need it but it’s there. It’s not functionality that improves the average user experience. So, Audirvana could make a plug in for multi room for example. So if you want it you install the plug in at the cost of extra resources. That’s great user experience. Cause then I’m not forced to have a bloated music software. But the option is there for those who need it.

Hi, I’d like you to show the favorite radio stations separately.

They do, just go to your Favorites then tab over to Radio and there will be your fav radio stations.

I already use convolution in the previous version with UpNp on MacOs 26.2. I am using the HAF plugin and DSP filters build for me by HAF (https://www.homeaudiofidelity.com/english/plugins/). What new in the version for convolution ? I’m afraid to use the beta version for fear of losing compatibility with this plugin.

Same for me, I stick to my legacy Audirvana 3.5.50…

A suivre …

‘User Experience’ is subjective…
I grew-up in the Silicon Valley (Mountain View) and have been an Apple computer user since the Apple IIe… What you don’t seem to understand, is that forward thinking design dogma that is corollary to success, is a function of a focus on the fundamental performance of the platform… The best thing that Steve Jobs did, was to purchase the Unix source code and extrapolate from this, while exploiting the advancements in hardware design. Apple was not the first to design the GUI, however, they observed the attributes and the failings of other product designs, in-order to create the UI that we understand today… They created something, that we did not ask for… they drove the trajectory of user acceptance with the combination of software and hardware…

In any case… the addition of UI elements (or any other function) should never impinge on the fundamental audio-quality performance of the audio-engine that makes Audirvāna special to audiophiles like myself, that appreciate sound-quality over functionality… If I can find and play a file, reliably, this is most important to me, I don’t want a bunch of superfluous functionality at the expense of sound-quality…

I personally appreciate your insights… Everything is evolving.

I’ll pay Apple to take back the liquid glass “upgrades.”

I agree… this is not their best look…

Your debug information report can provide more insights as to possible influences… Since there are some observations regarding sound-quality, it will serve all users to investigate the subjective platform configuration and resources in concert with the Audirvāna audio-engine performance that may be relative to these observations.

This may sound far-out, but consider the seasonal timing of this release… The electro-mechanical demands on the power architecture of your home and playback system scenario can influence the perceived sound… not to mention changes in air-pressure and other potential influences on our perception(s). So, having as much information as possible to extrapolate from, is essential in the overall subjective assessment of playback sound-quality.

I understand in juxtaposition, there appears to be a differential in the perceived sound of AS v2 versus AS v3 Beta… I am personally finding a need to make adjustments in the Studio EQ and in my r8Brain stop band level and find the v3 sound very satisfying… At this point, I am still formulating the best descriptive wording to convey my subjective perception(s) … Generally, I am in agreement with @Thierry2024 's initial interpretation(s). But I am also, interested in the subjective observations of other beta testers…

As far as can tell this is a plain vanilla convolution engine with no input or output gain control… It seems to work… I use 2 plugins myself, the Hang Loose Convolver and a mastering quality EQ, both with gain control… They both work in my kit with this new beta… And there is no guarantee things will work for you with your HAF plugins… There is only cross your fingers and try it… If you have fears then don’t try this beta…

The following is posted in the instructions for the operation of the peq.

Note: For even more precise frequency/gain and Q values, you can double click the values above the knobs and manually type in the exact freq/gain/Q you want.

This is not operational in the beta. Please tell me how to make incremental adjustments in any of the new options.

Thanks

Up, down, left, right keys for scrolling and text box selection and keyed entry would be a great feature for all of the GUI…

Works for me…
Make sure you have the band activated…
Some filter types like Low Pass, 1st-Order Low Pass, 1st-Order High Pass, Low Pass, Notch and Band Pass will have irrelevant parameters disabled…

Also, I am able to double-click on the control ‘knob’ to reset the band gain control to zero dB (0.0dB) and to reset the default setting of the other controls.

If you are trying to change values during playback, make sure you have ‘Realtime’ enabled… You cannot make realtime EQ adjustments on PCM signals being modulated (up-sampled) to DSD.

Thanks for the help guys, I’ll try it tomorrow. Again in the peq instructions it states to double click the value above the knobs. In previous versions I could click on the knob for a peq value and use the up/down keys. I could for example raise or lower the gain on an eq value and change it in .1 increments. Not working that way now.

Yep… the arrow keys are not functional for me either for incremental adjustment…

Note: I see the cursor jumps to the Left or Right of the value entry box with the Up and Down arrows, and the Left and Right arrows move the cursor through the value places…

Whether you are in the queue, favourites window, or local library window you can use on Mac the cmd/alt + L buttons which will immediately take you immediately to the now playing track, playing album, playing album respectively in each of those areas.

Not sure what corresponding keys on Windows etc would be.

Still getting use to the layout differences but not much is an issue of extreme gravitas.

Happy that settings for my Headphones and IEM’S have transitioned across in EQ and all seem to be working.

Have not had time to test a convolution file as yet but hope to do so before or after Xmas.

On Version 2, I was always unable to get AS to play DLNA to my WiiM in the lounge room, however that has worked extremely well today playing albums with gaps and Gapless alike. One thing I did note is that I got a slight distortion on the first song I played where I had Upsampling x 2 on and with WiiM upsampling to 192. Stopped track on iPad remote, reset upsampling to off, restarted track and played fine thru the WiiM.

MacOS 16.2, 16” screen.
Sort window at the top of Artists, Albums, etc. is fixed. If you have too many sorting criteria, the “add sort criteria” button falls out of the viewing window and you can no longer see/use it.

Sometimes I am able to scroll down to the bottom, but not every time. It’s hit-or-miss.

Also, the slider button on the right side of most of the viewing screens disappears and is difficult to make visual again.

The little edit icon is too small, it is difficult/tricky to click on it “just right” to get to the edit screen.

Why not just up-sample to 192kHz using ‘Power of 2’ strategy so to produce the proper logical sample-rate in Audirvāna for all files, while taking care of your gain structure in the DSP + Upsampling chain…? (Auto in EQ)
