New TIDAL Steaming Issues with 3.5.50

Computer: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
maOS High Sierra version 10.13.6
Audirvana 3.5.50 (3580)

After the latest update, I am experiencing seemingly random failures to stream files which have been performing correctly before the update. Some TIDAL files play normally but others attempt to load but eventually return an error code about being unable to play file. There is no pattern with some existing playlist and files working and other failing. New files or playlist don’t seem to work at all.

I have signed out and back in with TIDAL in Audirvana with no improvement.

Can you help with solving this issue so that I can once again access TIDAL as was possible before 3.5.50?

Thanks,

Jim H.

A lot of us in the same boat: thread here: Unable to open an audio file for playback

I …did you fin a solution…I have the same problem

My problem remains although it seems to stream some TIDAL track but not others. There seems to be no consistant pattern and I see changes in what will and won’t load every time I run Audirvana.

Hopefully someone in technical support will come to our rescue via a workaround or a new version update.

If I find come solution myself, I’ll put it up here.

Today, Saturday, Nov. 20th, 2021 everything is working normally with TIDAL.

Same Audirvana Mac Version 3.5.50 (3580) but somehow now all selections are streaming without any issues.

Does anyone in support know what happened? Is this a widespread problem?

Just wanted to update my post to indicate current status but regret I cannot offer any useful advice for anyone else.

TIDAL streaming was broken and now it’s fine — I didn’t do anything different so nothing further to report.

Good luck to others who have had similar issues!

@Antoine is there anything you fixed ?

@Antoine hasn’t fixed, I still can’t play albums on Tidal. I was able to for one day and then kaput.

Anything new on that side? I am still having issues…

Well, here it is January 31, 2021 and my TIDAL issues are back!

Some files play as expected while others hang up after displaying “Playing first file…”, etc. As before, restarting, etc. doesn’t help.

My concern is that support for Audirvana 3.5.xxx may have actually been discontinued even though that is not the official policy. If support issues go unanswered and unaddressed, that’s the actual status regardless of stated policy.

Very conflicted as to whether to move to Studio. If agreeing to a subscription model, there are other options which are also good choices. Once I am paying monthly for service, ROON is a very obvious alternative choice.

With ROON it is possible to combine digital convolving corrections while maintaining MQA functionality — something I would like to experiment with. I don’t think this is possible with any other audio app at this time.

Has anyone else given up on Audirvana 3.5.xxx and moved to another audio program? What has your experience been?

We do not make any new feature on this version and the issue you and others, have is really difficult for us to narrow the root cause of it since we can’t reproduce this issue on our side.

If you let Audirvāna do the unfolding of MQA, you can do this with Audirvāna.

Strangely enough, Roon can go one step further.

Roon does the decoding. DSP can be applied. And then Roon puts the LSB back so that the DAC gets an MQA signal again.

This allows the DAC to activate the LED and upsample according to the correct MQA filter settings. Personally, I think it’s strange that you can add DSP and still guarantee the authenticity of the analog recording afterwards.

Anyway, I can imagine that it is nice to not only perform the decode but also the upsampling. Or not only the first unfold but also the second and third………….

Let us help you narrow it down then!

Judging by the other thread, this issue is widespread. Audirvana v3 is completely useless to many of us at the moment.

I am still having the same issue with 3.5.50 on MacBook Pro, but ok with PC Windows 10. I wonder why Audiavana hasn’t issue a patch to fix it.

J’ai le même souci sur mon PC Windows 10 !

Here is an idea which might help all users experiencing streaming operation failure from version 3.5.50 (3580) [this is Mac version but other 3.5.x OS versions are likely similar] find an solution to which Audirvana support says they cannot reproduce.

Almost all users of 3.xx.xx versions have likely been updating for many years through a series of individual, incremental steps. So the actual version of 3.5.50 in the field may indeed differ in subtle but critical ways. Likely support is employing a new, clean version which has NOT undergone serial, incremental modifications over time.

According to Audivana support, it is still possible to download a clean version of 3.5.50 if users need to start over.

Mac — https://audirvana.com/legacy-mac
Windows — https://audirvana.com/legacy-windows

Is it possible that removing ALL files from an in-the-field version of an existing legacy installation and then starting over with a clean version (free of any unintentional sequential update errors) would solve this problem? That is, users would be, in effect, duplicating the experience of official support where the download problems “cannot be reproduced?”

If so, can support supply a total uninstall procedure which will remove any corrupted files and clean the machine for a new, fresh installation? Some programs are supplied with a dedicated uninstall utility which keeps a complete list of all files (system and application specific) which need to be removed. Failing such an automated solution, second best solution would be an inclusive list of files (and their locations) which need to be manually deleted.

I am tempted to try this myself but have been reluctant to wing it on my own as even though it’s straightforward to remove the executing program file, I have no idea of what other supporting files could cause issues with a fresh installation.

Can someone in support please respond to this suggestion?

On MacOs the installation is easy, you simply have to trash the app you have in Application folder but you will still have the AudirvanaPlusDatabaseV2.sqlite file which is where a lot of settings and basically how Audirvāna can display your tracks, store local favorites and playlists.

To go to it with the Finder:

  1. Open its Go menu
  2. Pressing the option (or alt) key, and maintain it pressed. This reveals the Library command in this Go menu.
  3. Click on this Library command
  4. In the Finder window that opens, navigate into Application Support, then Audirvana
  5. You’ll find there the file AudirvanaPlusDatabaseV2.sqlite

Special Warning : When you delete the file AudirvanaPlusDatabaseV2.sqlite, you will lose all the Playlists you created in Audirvana. However, you can back-up all those Playlists by exporting them before deleting the database file.

On Windows the removal of the app is also easy, you need to right click on the app name in the start menu and click on “Uninstall” BUT there is a major thing with the Windows version, the AudirvanaPlusDatabaseV2.sqlite will be removed at the same time while you do this process.

To access it, you need to find it in one of two different locations :
C:\Users[your login]\AppData\Local\Packages\Audirvana.Audirvana-[… id number that can vary]\LocalCache\Local\Audirvana\Audirvana
C:\Users[your login]\AppData\Local\Audirvana\Audirvana

to show AppData folder:

Antoine,

Many thanks for the excellent instructions to remove Audirvana 3.5.50 completely and start over with a fresh installation…

To my great surprise, when I launched my copy of Audirvana 3.5.50 Mac this evening, TIDAL access was 100% perfect! No issues with any files!

I can appreciate how Support cannot duplicate the problem with TIDAL that I and others have been having. Apparently, I can’t duplicate them either!

Keep in mind that I have done absolutely nothing between the last time things were very spotty and today when all was perfect!

It’s really a mystery but thanks again for the guidance on removing/replacing the app.

Mystified once again,

JWH
