Are they by any chance the same albums from Tidal that you can’t play? Or can you try and see if you are having the same problems since the 3.5.50 update?

Are you asking me or K? I can play the albums from the Tidal app just fine.

Apparently KT88 can now play them again. The problem was solved by………

After the update, he suddenly couldn’t play certain albums anymore. Coincidentally, could also be something on Tidal’s side.

Hello @apra, do you have the same issue while you play on your MacBook Speakers?

Yes I do, please see the debug info for MAC:

Have you tried to resintall 3.5 using this link?

https://audirvana.com/delivery/AudirvanaMacLatest.php

Unfortunately multiple reinstalls of 3.5.50 and Tidal/computer restarts/router reboots have not resolved problems of Tidal playback within Audirvana for me.

The same behaviour exhibits with both a mac mini (mid 2010 high sierra) and a macbook air m1 (2021 big sur) connected via ethernet and wifi respectively : a handful of tracks/albums (MQA/Flac/AAC) will play but most hang loading or are “unable to open…. for playback’

There are no playback issues with the Tidal App itself nor Tidal within BluOS.

There are no issues with iTunes/Apple Music playback within Audirvana

Router/Apps/OSX are up to date. I have checked Firewall settings. De bug info has been forwarded to support.

It is possible the behaviour is isolated or local. I’ve no way of knowing. I do know I’ve now exhausted my limited trouble shooting repertoire and so I’d welcome guidance from the community.

When you open the OSX console next to Audirvana. (Audirvana as filter setting). Do you see a specific error in Console when starting a Tidal track?

Thank you for responding so quickly with the suggestion.

Never having used Console before I’ve needed to quickly familiarise myself with it’s workings and how to navigate the info. The bulk of messages related to Audirvana suggest an HTPP load failure ( error code 303 ) for tracks that won’t play.

This is really way out of my league.
But a quick google search suggests that the file cannot be found after a request has been redirected.

What does the HTTP status code 303 mean?

The HTTP status code 303, “303 redirect” for short, indicates that the server is redirecting the request URL to a different URL. It can for instance be used to prevent users from accidentally re-submitting forms when using the “back” button in their browser, as the 303 redirect indicates that a follow-up request to the temporary URL should be made using the GET HTTP method.

It’s totally out of my league too. But Console is potentially a helpful resource that hadn’t occurred to me. So many thanks for responding.

Since you have tried to use the Console, can you use the search at the top right of it and send us all of the thing related to Audirvana after you tried to play your Tidal track?

You can send it at support@audirvana.com.

Yes I re-installed and still have the same issue. I have emailed you the console output.

Hi,

I started having the same problem after upgrading to 3.5.50. About half of the albums or tracks I tried to play won’t load, with the “Unable to open an audio file for playback” message.

I just made the following observation: If I go in the Audirvana settings for Tidal and set “Limit streaming quality to” “High” instead of “Lossless” or “Master”, then those tracks that wouldn’t load previously are now playing fine. If I set it back to “Lossless” they won’t play anymore, so it’s not a fix per se, but hopefully will help narrow down on the source of the issue.

Cheers!

hey lull - thank f for your observations and suggesting this "work around’!

The settings adjustment has meant Tidal playback is now possible on both computers.

And (so far) without the ‘glitching and skipping’ which had been an issue for some of us over the past six months or so.

cheers!

Unfortunately this means Audirvana is limited to streaming what Tidal calls the High - Best compromise between data usage and sound quality (320kbps AAC). My Tidal subscription is for Lossless & Master stream quality.

I’m new to this forum; I wonder if I should make a formal support request for this. One of my colleagues at work has the exact same issue.

I’m also new to the forum and encouraged that an albeit temporary fix was found so quickly within the community. Thank you.

It’s a compromise but I’m hopeful that your discovery will hasten the process to a permanent solution being found by Audirvana.

Support are aware of the playback issue but I imagine additional requests would at least help build a picture of its extent. I’m curious as to why some users are affected but not others.

Do you have any idea whether the files that cannot be played are MQA files or not? And whether they are 16/44.1 MQA. If you open them in the Tidal app you can probably see what the format is.

Does playback work if the DAC is set up as an MQA decoder? Then Audirvana will not (try to) perform the decoding step.
